That’s about right for the national average. $20 is 25% more than $16. That is a huge increase for businesses to bear. Payroll is always the biggest expense for a company. If you want automation asap then this is the way to go.

So would you say they are paid fairly for their work?

thanks for the graph. i think i understand it enough.
so perhaps these older ladies were only put on a track in such a way to make sure they had basic math or lower algebra available to them at a job like cashier and thus was their track.
for the flaws of america and capitalism, i'm glad your aptitude at younger ages don't limit your ceiling.

Its still the land of opportunity. Poor people can get degrees online using Pel Grants. There is absolutely no excuse for not upgrading education or skill.
Starbucks must not have high standards, the girls who work the seasonal restaurants make $500 plus a day, with only a min. wage base.

Ok then, so what is your stance regarding the possible unionization of these Starbucks stores?

at least not in the vast majority of areas where Starbucks are located. refer to my first post in this thread.

We could have a system like Japan or Korea, where your placement out of college decides your fate. They have employment for life, so your first employer is huge.

Starbucks has a partnership with Arizona State University online. That’s a $50K+ degree for those who wish to pursue higher education, paid for by Starbucks. A barista at Starbucks could obtain necessary skills from that program to enter the white collar world for those willing to do so.

other than personal limits, yes.
i alway point to lebron james because we're about the same age.
i came from a stable 2 family household. solid a+ student, decent athlete, good extracurriculars. put myself through college, no debt, married to one woman and two kids.
Lebron:
quote:
James was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio, to Gloria Marie James, who was 16 at the time of his birth.[14]:?22? His father, Anthony McClelland, has an extensive criminal record and was not involved in his life.[15][16][17] When James was growing up, life was often a struggle for the family, as they moved from apartment to apartment in the seedier neighborhoods of Akron while Gloria struggled to find steady work.[18] Realizing that her son would be better off in a more stable family environment, Gloria allowed him to move in with the family of Frank Walker, a local youth football coach who introduced James to basketball when he was nine years old.[14]:?23
there's no world where he should be making my yearly salary every two games based on our starting points, or even where we were when we were both 10 years old. despite any racial overtones in the US, everybody knows his kids will be better off than my 2 kids (about the same age,) and rightfully so because he's worked for it.
Lebron, as much as I don't care for him, has a marketable skill and has done everything he can to make a great life for his kids and set them up for future success. nobody in their right mind is going to compare the two of us and think my kids have any advantage or privilege over his children.
that's because of meritocracy and capitalism in our land of opportunity.

Yep, Lebron has an elite skill in a tiny talent pool. He's going to be wealthy.
I don't. I have a lot of different skills, but I've never worked a job in which I was not somewhat easily replaceable.

The road to self actualization is a solo job, too many people feel entitled and never grow.
Its 100% on the employee to find a path to make a "livable wage." Begging, whining, demanding is the wrong way.
I used to hire Bulgarian J-1 students for summer work. They'd come and work two jobs, and take home to Bulgaria more than the average adult made in a year over there.

Right, so really this is about cost of living?

In a world where craft coffee is popping up everywhere, increasing their prices would kill them.

Can tell who didn’t go to business school…He’s 100% right you dolt. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s exactly the way it is. Pharma spends millions on R&D and once a drug gets approved has a few years to recoup before generics are allowed which, ostensibly, ends the patent holder’s profitability.
TLDR
Read a book, if you can.

You are rather dense in the head. I'm certain I'm not the first or last to reveal this fact to you.
