Had 2 relatives that were recently hit by other drivers (other driver at fault). One had minimum 15K coverage, and one was uninsured. Trust me, you NEED uninsured motorist coverage.

Not sure why I got downvotes, but to answer your question: They are standing by them, making us jump through a bunch of hoops to prove the insured meaningfully rejected UM. Insureds never recall doing so. It is a mess.

Is there a real paper form? I just haven't encountered it at all.

No. It's a selection screen on the computer. Prints out applicant's choice on paper at some point (probably when i request it). Digital signature act applies if it was done knowingly.

At the end of the day, you NEED uninsured motorist coverage. A $15k policy (LA minimum) isn't going to do shite for you if you are injured. If you don't have UM, you are fricked and will go into debt because a broke dick injured you. Don't be a broke dick too.

How did you get higher UM?

So long story short....

We used it this year. My wife's medical insurance covered the bill, and State Farm reimbursed us for the TOTAL hospital amount not our co-pay. They then reported it to our health insurance. We then paid the difference to the health insurance.

I am very impressed with the lack of wrong information contained in this thread. Usually, the alpha idiot runs out the knowledgeable folks, with information about a similar incident with his 3rd cousin.

Thanks, ot.

The way I understand it, this pays for your medical bills if you're hit by an uninsured motorist. But what if you have excellent health insurance? Is it redundant to carry 50/100 in uninsured motorist bodily injury if you have great medical insurance? I know I am ignorant in this, this is why I'm asking.

UM pays for pain and suffering and lost wages as well (unless you're an idiot and select economic only)

We just won a MSJ when the insured didn't actually see the UM waiver form. clicking the little bubble didn't qualify as knowingly rejecting. just sayin

How do you have UM limits higher than liability limits?

nice work. How big of a policy? The black hats don't want to take that one up just in case.

I don't think it's possible to get higher UM than your BI liability limits.

its a good buy considering how many uninsured people you have in this state. Plus a lot of doctors run away when they hear you have been in an accident.
