You need to carry it to cover yourself every way possible.

liability insurance
UM insurance
Umbrella insurance
Health insurance
Disability insurance
life insurance

I am fine with you not having UM. Nobody needs UM. Nobody needs a nice truck. Nobody needs a faithful wife.

I will continue to carry UM.

I just think UM is doubling up on things that I already have covered

Eta: I spend a ton of money on insurance already

Does your disability pay loss of earning capacity? Does it pay lost income for the rest of your potential work life? I don't know. I'm asking. And I understand your mindset regarding pain and suffering. But when you're shitting in a bag drooling on yourself and your old lady is wheeling you around you might sing a different tune. Your wife definitely will.

UM coverage is cheap. You are paying for collision which isn't much less. Why not pay a little more and have better coverage?

Health insurance and collision won't pay loss of earnings or pain and suffering.
Pretty sure it does.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread and thought you were saying UM doesn't.

Your disability policy won't pay shite to your widow for your loss of support. UM will.

We've had this discussion before. I do hope you aren't in a position to need it and not have it.

Yes and yes

That pretty much the definition of disability

If I'm that bad off a UM policy isn't going to make much difference. They can pull the plug and collect on my life insurance.

No it isn't. Most disability policies pay a fraction of your earnings for a relatively short period of time.

I do have full coverage and a very small amount of uninsured motorist but it looks like I will need surgery and rehab and I am concerned.

You're fricked! Really! Been thru that crap and it sucks the very very big one.

You might have a chance if the father didn't pull the plate.

You will need a lawyer for sure. Sucks one way or another though.

Life insurance policies in any substantial numbers are very expensive. So your decision to have a huge life policy and no UM tells me you are rejecting UM out of some sort of statement. It's not an economic decision for you.
