You brought me down a deep rabbit hole at 12am. Have a bump

I have no idea who it is but I love mysteries so thanks for the read. Wonder if he will ever be identified....

I don’t either until I get to drinking.

He looks photoshopped into every single one of those photos.

He does look vaguely familiar, I'll give him that.

I thought the same. He has a South Louisiana look about him.

Still doesn’t explain why no former classmates, coworkers, neighbors or anyone who knew him hasn’t identified him yet. Very strange.

His picture isn’t as widespread as many think it is, imo l. If it was put on Dateline, I think he would be identified in 10 minutes

Could he have been involved in the actual development of Screeps? I suppose that would have been checked out already, but any techies in here familiar with that game?

If he isn’t identified where did the photos come from?

How much money do they really need for dna analysis? 23andMe is like 50 dollars during their Black Friday sale.

I guess the group ones could have been taken at some sort of hotel/resort deal for hikers, and they didn’t know his name? Still seems strange, he seems very familiar with the people in the pictures. Also where did the one of him by himself, obviously not around the same time, as his beard is much longer, come from?

From hikers and others who met him along the trail and took photos with him.

The Sworn Statement Podcast (first three episodes and two updates) explains just about everything that the pertinent Sheriff's Dept. has made public.

Has the local news ever reported on this at all?

My theory is that maybe he was an alien.

Seems hikers use “trail names” instead of their real names, for security I guess.
What am I missing here? How does this increase security, seems like it makes it more dangerous/problematic with people being out there in the wilderness not identifying themselves.

I don’t know what screeps is but on the podcast they talked about releasing his coding hoping someone would identify it.

I don't think it's security per se, just a custom. You're on the trail, new life, new world, new name. It's not something you pick, it's given to you by other hikers based on some personal characteristic or something that happens. Not unlike call signs for pilots.
