No more community service? Now all crimes go to jail?

Not sure in their wondering but Louisianas was weird so I voted no.

And imo it’s not slavery. The criminals need to pay their room and board.

The taxpayers are footing that bill. Cleaning up trash is the least they can do.

They still can, and they will still get paid for it, just now litter detail can't be forced upon inmates as a punishment, which wasn't happening anyway.

I voted against it to make a point at how ridiculous it was to even vote on it

I did as well. Same with #4. I actually think #4 is the one that was already ruled unconstitutional.

This isn’t about slavery. It’s about not wanting to pay prisoners for community service work like garbage detail and such.

The opponents just called it slavery to trick voters.

Well what about community service as part of your sentence? They do litter pickup in Louisiana still. Or at least did. Or cleaning up campus after games.

I remember in Dave Chappelle's 'The Closer' he talks about a slave who was set free and given land by his owner. The slave, not a free man, built his own plantation and because he had the money, he bought his own slaves because that's what people with money did back then.. I tried to find the clip, but the only thing I can find it on is some dude who was offended by him saying this, youtube page.

Youtube

My point is.. Why do they even have to vote for this? Its illegal to kidnap people right? Human trafficking is illegal right? In order for someone to get a slave today they would either have to kidnap them or by them from some human trafficker so the only way it can be done legally is if someone volunteered to be a slave. So doesn't those laws of kidnapping and human trafficking pretty much abolish slavery?

And the 20% were probably people who thought it would be funny that the results showed that some people voted for slavery.

shite man I wouldn’t be opposed to it but there need to be some common sense rules. Like it shouldn’t be based on race or creed or anything. And slavery should be voluntary. People should be able to sell themselves into slavery to pay off gambling debts or to get away from a crazy wife. Then it would be fair

About 11% voted against a similar measure in Vermont...that bastion of the Confederacy.
