I'm sure a scholar like yourself knows about the 1991 elections, right? When Ukraine voted to be independent from the USSR?
LINK
A referendum on the Act of Declaration of Independence was held in Ukraine on 1 December 1991.[1] An overwhelming majority of 92% of voters approved the declaration of independence made by the Verkhovna Rada on 24 August 1991.
Voters were asked "Do you support the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine?" The text of the Declaration was included as a preamble to the question. The referendum was called by the Parliament of Ukraine to confirm the Act of Independence, which was adopted by the Parliament on 24 August 1991. Citizens of Ukraine expressed overwhelming support for independence. In the referendum, 31,891,742 registered voters (or 84.18% of the electorate) took part, and among them 28,804,071 (or 92.3%) voted "Yes".

The question was would you like to dissolve the USSR, no one was asked what country they would like to be in, it wasn’t on the ballot. If they had asked, Ukraine would have lost the Donbas and Crimea at a minimum.

The question was ''Do you support the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine''?
Stop lying, lmao.

Raoul, when are you going to update the OP with the MoD’s statement that Ukraine didn’t actually attack the beach, and that ordinance fired at a legitimate military site was destroyed by Russia over said beach, causing these casualties?

Trump might not have liked it, but I don’t see how he would have stopped it.
I think the point is the invasion never would have happened if Trump was President for a variety of reasons. I'm not saying the Russians were intimidated by Trump, but rather they saw him as a populist dealmaker with pacifist/isolationist tendencies who was willing to maintain the geopolitical status quo in favor of stroking his ego at some trailer park rally.
You can't predict an alternate future, but it's not a coincidence that after years of relative tranquility during the Trump administration, the saber rattling and mobilization efforts went into warp speed following the installment of Biden and his handlers. And instead of trying to diffuse the situation, we basically doubled down and insulted them and dared them to cross the red line as if we were calling a bluff.
The bottom line is Russia is Russia and Putin is a maniacal a-hole but on some level you have to admit that this was also a failure of US policy and diplomacy. There's a difference between being pro-Russia and being pro-smart when dealing with Russia.

The question was would you like to dissolve the USSR, no one was asked what country they would like to be in,
The ballot question was “Do you support the Rada’s resolution that Ukraine declares its independence from the USSR?”
So the real issue was independence or not independence.
Independence won overwhelmingly in all oblasts (sort of like counties) including Crimea although there was only a 37% voter turnout in Crimea and the “yes” vote there was only 54%.

Cool, so not a damn thing about Ukraine bombing their own people for 7 years prior to the invasion?
Posted on 6/23/24 at 1:33 pm to Joshjrn
Ukraine also say they have a 95% interception but also desperate need 130 patriot systems

Who cares whether it was cash or weapons? If weapons that just means the taxpayers will be paying to replace the weapons. It all comes from the taxpayer.
Why don't you drop everything you're doing and go join the Ukraine army? While you're over there please remind Germany and Poland this is their war to be fighting with Ukraine, not ours.
