China was a 3rd world shite hole in the 90s and became a rival to US present day and now have bases in Africa and are planting influence in Mexico while plotting to take over Taiwan and is arming Russia and you call the successful diplomacy? The British still had territory in China before we decided it was smart to creat the power they are now.
China is now beating the U.S. in
Manufacturing
Chip making
EVs
Solar power
Their military is also a close rival
The sanctions we placed on Russia is now useless because all can be replaced by China

The dissolution of the Soviet Union was broadly popular in Russia and Ukraine, but that did not mean that the people in places like the Donbas wanted to be part of Ukraine. They were never given that option of joining Russia, and when they started talking about it, Kiev shut it down.

Their millitary consists of stolen US and Russian blueprints. Turned into hodgepodge equipment. Their IFVs and APCs and tanks. Are all upgrades of soviet designs. Their type 99 is a T-72 with a different turrent. Their jets are copied designs of F-16, F-15s, and they literally fly a copied blackhawk.

China is a joke and the U.S. threatens to collapse any country that help Russia but just writes strongly worded letters to China for helping Russia bypass sanctions and with military equipment

The USSR imploded because its economy was collapsing. People were standing in long ques just to buy bread. Only the highest government officials could afford meat. Even cabbage, beets and potatoes, Russian food staples, were scarce. The USSR couldn't pay for the wheat it was forced to import because its collective farms weren't producing enough food to feed its native population.
The impending collapse of its social structure might have led to mass deaths and even nuclear proliferation when the only thing Russia had of value was its nuclear arsenal.

Yes: 50–60% 80–85% 85–90% 90–95% 95–100%
The 1991 vote for Ukraine to be independent of the Soviet Union. The lighter the shading the less the support for Ukraine independence. Even Crimea (which is strongly Russian majority after Stalin cleansed the Tatars to Siberia and other places) was around 55% in favor of Ukraine independence. The Donbas was over 80% support for Ukraine independence. So more than 80% wanted to be a part of Ukraine, rather than the USSR; which to be honest isn't much different than being a part of Russia given who ran the bureaucracy in the USSR.
