I've seen it at 1.5X and 2.5X and 3.5X the cost. If demand is super crazy, it may be more
Thats the point in the supply vs demand thing. If rates rise to 2.5X, that entices more drivers out to the road, and brings the rates back down. I am not sure yet how fast that process works though (i.e. if you wait 30 minutes, do rates drop?), but we will probably know by the weekend

So the narrative that it would only be for special events wasn't true.
While a special event can cause surge pricing, it is not the only thing that could create a lack of supply.

My two experiences were awesome. Nothing bad at all to say.

I would be very interested in learning how the Surge concept will be applied.
I am a HUGE fan of Uber and readily agree that they can apply that policy or any other pricing scheme in any way they want but...
If they don't apply it evenly, for instance not lowering the surge pricing when demand dies down, then it will effect my continued use of the platform. As a consumer, I expect to be treated fairly or I will take my dollars elsewhere.

i understand that sentiment but they kinda have consumers by the balls in BR.
Would people rather wait 45 minutes for a cab (that may never show up) and pay $15? Or would they rather pay $20-$25 and wait 10 minutes for Uber. Not to mention you know exactly when the car is going to be there and plan around it (i.e. close your tab out and enjoy the rest of your drink inside instead of sitting on the curb for what seems like forever).
To me people are going to choose uber every time, even if they are being slightly taken advantage of in price.

I have used it twice. It is by far better than yellow cab or DWI's. If you want your first ride free use the code DWHZ7

Knowing part of the way this company operates, I'd imagine that surge pricing is based completely on a computer model/algorithm of supply and demand and not necessarily one guy flipping a switch in a computer room because the LSU game is about to end. Literally, if xxx number of drivers are out and yyy number are requesting rides, surge pricing is applied until the numbers revert back to normal. (Don't quote me on this)

I was too drunk to figure out how to use the app.

I have only seen surge pricing a handful of times in Atlanta, one was NYE and it was like 4.5x pricing.
From my experiences, Uber will do everything they can to keep prices low. They may surge price you one weekend but then give you a discount code or free ride the next.

lol, what?
It's so easy it's supposed to be drunk proof...open the app, press little GPS beacon, request ride, boom
Where were you? 3rd street with the rest of the hipsters?

They might be considering the weekend before LSU starts back up a special event

Have used Uber 4 times in the last two days in Nashville and it is awesome and convenient. I haven't had to wait more than 2 minutes for them to arrive.
For anyone that hasn't used it yet and wants a free ride you can use the code uberJonb83.
