They can't just go against state law so I don't know what your point is.

Nashville is definitely overrated. That said, it's still the nicest city in the south.

I am just having a hard time understanding the migration to Austin by liberals.

The state is red. Its like an oxymoron in some weird way. Lets flock to this one liberal city that is in the middle of a state that bleeds red for the most part.

Unfortunately if illegal immigration isn't curtailed it won't be red 20-25 years from now...

Right now the Texas state legislature is trying to pass a bill (SB 361) aimed at striking down municipal regulations aimed at ride sharing. It has a decent chance of being passed into law so Uber and Lyft could make a return to Austin this summer.

You underestimate illegals. Most of them share Republican ideals on everything except immigration

Correct. With the percentage of Gen Z that is coming up liberal, combined with all immigrants in the large cities of Texas, its gonna be interesting to see what happens. Im still not sure if Austin, Houston, SA and Dallas going blue could sway the whole state.

All the big cities in Texas have been blue for 10 years now. A republican doesn't have a chance in local elections in Dallas. But gerrymandering has kept the dems from getting more state and national house seats.

The thinking for them likely goes like this: Austin is considered to be an "it" city in our American pop culture for now. They city draws a lot of attention for SXSW and ACL fest, but relative to the coastal cities it is relatively less expensive. Add to the fact that you have a fun Texas culture of great food (BBQ, tex-mex) and music, it makes it a compelling city for those looking to escape the grind of the seaboard areas. The laid back attitude of the city also helps makes it attractive as well.

As far as those who are steadfast liberals, the city offers the golden opportunity for them to antagonize the red blood conservatives in Texas because they all have to come to Austin for the Texas state legislation.

I actually thought Texas football weekends would have been a pretty accurate harbinger of things to come. It was an absolute shite show down there for the Notre Dame/Texas game for the exact same reasons.

Maybe it wasn't the canary in the coal mine that it should have been because Texas largely sucked most of the year and not as many people came to games.

Greg Abbott (guy is awesome) is taking a hard line stance against the sanctuary cities. It's awesome that he lives smack dab in the middle of the land of fruits and nuts but controls so many things. They hate him so much.

I saw an interview with a lady that lived near downtown ATX since the early 90s and she was having to move because she said she couldn't afford the taxes down there anymore. She said she voted for every single tax increase that got on the ballot but didn't realize it was going to price her out of her own home. These people have zero common sense.

Love it when gerrymandering gets thrown out.

Gerrymandering in Texas is, to a very large degree, due to the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Add on top that Democrats tend to be inefficiently distributed (not just in Texas, but all over the country), and voila: Texas is still very red.

An unfunded mandate on cities and counties. Who is going to pay for the extra jail space needed to hold these people? Local jails are jam packed with real criminals as it is.
