Lifting can be good cardio. Problem is most guys don't do the high volume, compound movement, short rest period type of workouts that allow them to forgo the running/cardio.

That article just seems to suggest if you want to be a meathead, running is not good.

If you want to be lean and have a strong heart, I'd suggest running is very good for you.

Your response suggests you didn't read it.

Being strong is better for everyone. Running long distances makes it harder to be strong.

With you nomm. I have been taking my son to the gym and use it as a way to show him the body types he does NOT want. We ride bikes there

Why not weight train as well since you are already there?

Having a healthy cardiovascular system is best, however. Most guys who just lift don't have that. I'm not saying you have to run to achieve it though.

Just stop. What you're saying is 100% right but the knowledge is too new and modern. Runners are set in their ways and ignore all new research about the injury risks from running or the ineffectiveness of physical acticity based upon long distances at a steady and concistent pace.

Seems like it takes many years before updated and contemporary knowledge replace the old ways of thinking in the fitness community.

People are just now realizing that fat isn't the devil and "low-fat" foods actually can be worse for you than "fat" foods

Mark Rippetoe is as far from a bullshitter as you can get.

"Runners" run for sport, not necessarily the health benefits. You have to recognize the difference. They are different from joggers or people who run strictly for exercise.

He does know his shite, but me and him have VERY different opinions on what is fit. By all means do exactly what he says if you don't mind being fat but strong.

The farts meatheads rip are nasty as hell. They are the ones who consume too much protein powder and don't get enough natural protein like fish or chicken.

Well being skinny and relatively weak has gotten old, so I'm going to try more body fat, muscle, and strength.

Also, circuit training at gyms not designed for it, although I don't see many meat-heads do this.

Nailed it.

I get more of a kick out of the people doing stuff like shadow boxing with two pound dumbells. It makes you wonder if they just make stuff up off the top of their head.

There is middle ground. The average rippetoe disciple is no more fit than the average distance runner which is to say not very.
