TX speeding ticket question

I got a ticket going 68 in a 55 in some podunk speed trap town called Cuney.
The paperwork I received with the ticket said I may be eligible to take defensive driving to get the ticket dismissed. My question is, does that mean dismissed as in it won't go on my insurance and I still pay the fine, or the fine absolved too?
If it makes a difference, I live in TX, but I haven't switched my registration yet and still have a LA license.

I honestly didn't even know I was speeding til I got pulled over. I was in a 70 zone just cruising, and I missed the sign. The landscape didn't change so I didn't think much of it.

Oh no matter what you'll still pay. You may get it reduced to a non moving by taking a DD course but they still want their money

I got a ticket in some backwater community outside of Waco. Had my cruise control set and missed the reduced speed sign.
Called the number on the ticket. Said I could pay a slightly higher fine amount and fill out paperwork to have the ticket dropped if I did not have another moving violation for 90 days.
You have to then mail back paperwork after the 90 days are up and they send you a statement showing where the ticket is removed.
Takes a little bit of legwork with certified mail, but a lot easier than defensive driving or going to court.

Better than nothing, I guess that $237 will help that town of 1000 buy a shiny new tank for their SWAT team.

It's basically a no brainer to take the class. It will probably be on a Saturday. It can be inconvenient, though. Every single driver in this country should be required to take a Defensive driving course every 10 years, imo.

Do not do nothing, pay fine or take course. I blew off and a bench warrant was issued, Wise County, I believe.
I think the class is available on line, use to be and will require an investment of your time

I did this about 6 yrs ago. Ticket was in Houston. I paid the fine and gave them the certificate from the online class I took. Stayed off my insurance record, as long as I didn't get another ticket in the next 24 months. Otherwise, both go on your insurance record at that time.
Yes, you read that right, the class was online. The only bad part is that I couldn't fast forward through the course to get to the actual test and the course was 6 hours long. I just let it play in the background while I was at work. Test portion was very easy, very common sense answers.
Only difference, I had a TX license at the time. I don't know if the LA license makes a difference or not.

Yes. If you take the on,I've defensive driving course, the ticket is gone. Do it.

Ask the Clerk if they offer Deferred Adjutication (most places in Texas do). If so, and if you get no more tickets for 90 days, the original will be torn up and you will pay a reduced fine without it going on your record (won't hurt you for insurance purposes).

Actually, there are two signs, one warning of the reduction and then the limit.
The black cop in the white Dodge who pulled you over should have written you a ticket for failing to register your car within 30 days. Maybe you were smart enough not to clue him in on that.

Podunk little speed trap towns are generally too lazy to bother with the online recording unless they do NOT get paid. In other words, send them a money order (keep your receipt for a decade though) and they will probably just whistle as they deposit it in the local bank branch. (or the clerk puts it in her purse after cashing, there's a reason everyday you see news of clerks arrested from podunk speed trap towns)
Also be sure to trash the town every chance you get on social media. Speed trap towns are shady, everyone who profits off them is shady. Exposure to the light makes them scurry like the cockroaches they are.

This is the answer you seek although I'm not sure they'll do it for a out of state license but worth trying. If you do DD nothing will be reported to insurance, you have to pay for the class and give up 8 hours for the class along with a court cost though. Deferred is just the court cost and stay ticket free for 90 days, some county's it's only 60, if you do get a ticket in the probation period they say both go on your record without any options but I've never tested that.

You don't qualify for DD if you are 10% over the speed limit. Ask me how I know.
