The President of the United States has stated white supremacists are the biggest domestic terror threat.
And since he didn't clarify who particularly are white supremacists, it can be assumed by some that any white can be a white supremacist. In fact, that's the underlying narrative in Critical Race Theory, of which is being pushed by liberals.
Therefore, some can consider an attack like this as justified in helping the President in his mission.
