A better question would be if you’re at dinner and there are 4 couples, what’s your seating arrangement?
We say all the time that we need to just create a seating chart because we take forever to figure out where to sit. In general though, the guys will sit on one side of the table and the girls on the other.

Depends on the dynamics of the group.
sometimes it's better to have the 2 wives sit together so they are yacking at each other instead of the husbands.

It depends if I know the couple or not. If I don’t know them then I will do #1 so I don’t feel pressured to entertain the other husband. If I do know them then I still do #1 because by now he knows I’m there to watch the damn game.

I’ve noticed the groups with boring or annoying people sit all the husbands on one side and the wives on another. A fun group will mix everyone up and the table has a great time.
