they get sued..... the voters approved the millage, up to the 2.2.. the council could not have given 0.0. they had to give app or a portion of the millage. a vote took place for 1.3 and failed. Idiots even voted on the o.o and it failed, even though the parish attorney said it was illegal to give 0.0, they still voted since there was a motion on the floor. a last second vote switch by barbara fireberg delivered the entire 2.2
So you're saying that I won't get my money back?

Everybody should make this little effort today and make sure you throw her response to TUVA back at her as well (posted a couple pages back).
She assured her constituents she would be voting against this.

These type of property taxes are what eventually drove much of the wealth out of new orleans. The city council kept taxing property and taxing property until people finally said frick it and moved out of the city. The SJWs in BR are finally tapping into that formula (CATS, COA).
I've said this before and I'll say it again -- I think it is absolutely inequitable to allow those who do NOT own property to vote to raise property taxes on people who do own property. They have no skin in the game and the tax doesn't effect them one bit. It's absurd.

what y'all need to do is simply organize against her and ensure her short time on the council is terrible and frustrating
as her constituents, she represents you. she lied to you and fricked you over. make her life as a councilwoman hell

well i was thinking of other things to take down the COA
if the council will be complete pussies about actually taking the COA to task, and COA events are open to all seniors, what you need to do is flood the COA with different old people b/c when they're members, they elect the board and you can also do things like constantly monitor their events. that way if any political bullshite happens again, record it and leak it to the news

Call or email Freiburg. Tell her you are upset at her vote and look forward to voting against her.
Doesn't matter if you live in district. They won't know that.

I completely understand what you are saying, but, the property owner passes the increases back to the renter/tenant.

Nah, they think that they have no skin in the game and that the tax won't affect them one bit, but then their rents go up to cover the tax increases and they bitch about not enough affordable housing.

His vote last night is irrelevant. They got to 7 without him.

I know, it doesn't matter. His arse still should've shown up to the meeting.

Council people tend to be absent for meetings for one reason or another (usually it's one of them). I don't understand the problem here.

Nakamoto's already had his spotlight on these assholes. It doesn't do any good. The only answer is to leave B.R. If St. George happens and gets an ISD, I'm leaving this shithole. If St. George doesn't happen, I'm still leaving this shithole but will be considering places slightly farther out.

You guys are missing a few things.
Last night besides Okaying the tax, the Council approved giving the EBRCOA 1.3 Million dollars to remodel their existing HQ. WhY?
Advocate article
Voters approved a tax for the COA to spend to do that already. Here is what was on the ballot:
Se. of State
I highlighted the part giving the COA the authority to spend money on their facilities.
Why did the EBR parish Council give them more money? They have the ability right now to pay their own way, and to built and take care of their own facilities.
A second question, people are forgetting is that the COA already had a 3.27 million dollar a year revenue stream. Are they losing this revenue stream/ I seriously doubt they lose all of it.
COA website
They got 1.9 million plus from the state and just over 900K from the city, plus other revenues they report.
At the end of the day the EBRCOA could have 10 million or more to spend each and every year.

In another win for the Council on Aging on Wednesday, Metro Council members also agreed to spend $1.3 million in unallocated disaster recovery funds from Hurricanes Gustav and Ike to finish refurbishing a building that will serve as the agency's new headquarters.

Parishwide Council on Aging Proposition
Shall the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana (the "Parish") be authorized to levy and collect a 2.25 mills ad valorem tax (the "Tax") (an estimated $7,875,000 is reasonably expected to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the tax collection for the year 2017, and annually thereafter, to and including the year 2026, and shall the proceeds of the Tax (after paying reasonable and necessary expenses of collecting and administering the Tax) be used entirely and exclusively for the purpose of (i) providing funds to acquire, construct, operate and maintain facilities to serve elderly citizens in the Parish, and to operate and maintain programs, services and activities for elderly citizens in the Parish, including providing meals at senior citizen locations, providing home delivered meals, providing homemaker services, personal care assistance, nutritional education, wellness programs and recreational programs, in each case to be conducted and administered by the East Baton Rouge Parish Council on the Aging, Inc., or any successor thereto ("Council on Aging"), and (ii) providing funds for the operating budget of the Council on Aging, or any successor thereto?
