It was all wishcasting. The media reports what they want to become true and not what is presently true

The media doesnt report real news
It creates a narrative and searches for stories that agree with that narrative

Just the other day, some liberal claimed Elon had run Twitter off a cliff. Good times

That's a lot of traffic driven by Instagram. It doesn't seem like the platform people use to follow links to other domains.

As someone who doesn't use Twitter, I don't much care either way, but just for a bit of context, most people consider both Facebook and Instagram to be "declining" platforms. Not sure if they are the best benchmarks

ok. That's a stupid comment. What should we compare it up against? Myspace? Parler? Gab? TRUTH? Google Plus? FriendFeed? Friendster? Yik Yak? Ning? Vine?
Or, should we compare it to TikTok - you know, the one where the United States Government is trying to ban the entire platform from America?

Wouldn’t all the shopping purchases off of Instagram be directed to links from Instagram?
Pretty sure there is a shite load of monetization that originates on instagram and ends on a businesses click and ship website.

I believe it. Facebook is the Walmart of social media and Instagram's main purpose seems to be thotting.

You sir, a stupid. Look up where the data is housed…maybe you’ll care.

Good pt. Twitter is a news aggregator though. I'd expect this.

Hur, dur.
Considering the metric in the post is "traffic driven to domain via Google", I would say TikTok, Reddit, and Instagram as a distant third.
Think about it: how often do you "google" something to find something on Facebook?
Posted on 11/25/23 at 9:45 am to Joshjrn
Good point. I never go to Twitter to find something I'm looking for on Twitter. I Google the person's name followed by "Twitter".

How is the revenue looking? I don’t know. Lamestream media says it is not good with advertisers pulling out. Assume they’ll be back if traffic is good though

Yep. "person's name twitter", "(partial quote) twitter", "(recent event) twitter". Same thing with reddit. It's almost a meme on the internet at this point that if you want any decent search result to answer anything more than a stupidly basic question, add "reddit" to the end of your search query and you'll have vastly better luck

Sites whose purpose is to aggregate information are going to have higher google traffic metrics than sites whose purpose is to connect people. Just the nature of how those sites are interacted with.
And again, Twitter might be doing great. I don't follow it. Musk is still going to be obscenely rich regardless of whether Twitter moons or crashes and burns. It's just an odd metric to cherry pick against "competitors" that aren't exactly comparable within that metric. And also, again, considered to be in decline.

Funny thing is Elon is old school liberal.
Democrats are progressives, they loved Elon when he was just building electric cars, but now he exposed government attacks on free speech, they root against him personally.
