I was once in a foreign country, having flown from the US, wearing a big coat with multiple pockets and was shocked when I jammed my hands down deep in the pockets to find a .22 cartridge. No recollection of when it got there. Could have been down there for years unnoticed. It can happen.

I didn't speculate to the punishment being just for unjust, just that you have to be a complete moron to not thoroughly check your bags when traveling internationally.

Do people have one bag that they use for everything?

If you have enough money to go to Turks and Caicos, have a range bag like any semi-intelligent person.

The idea that THIS is what you take from this story is revealing.

No, it's not. It's the completely disproportional penalty of a minimum 12-year sentence for even 1 stray bullet. So disproportional that it's never been handed out and the legislature just voted to change it, admitting that it was bad law to begin with.

That's the bottom line of the story, not "muh dumb tourists"

they didn’t make up the law after the idiot got caught, this place is ridiculously hypocritical, epitome of “rules are for thee”

How stupid are you? The literal fricking story is about how the legislature changed the law, acknowledging that it was bad law, which didn't give judges leeway to determine intent, motive, etc.

Yet you, and others, are still hung up on stupid tourists.

It can be bad law and the tourists can still be stupid. Both things can be true. But the point of the linked story, was the changing of the law.

Maybe I’m just an idiot, but what kind of national security threat are shells or shell casings if there are no guns present?

About the same threat that a 6 oz bottle of shampoo poses when there is no hair present:)

One time I flew and used my normal gun bag for a personal bag. I didn't have a single round in it. But they did a swab test and I guess it hit for explosive powder and I got pulled to the side and they went through it and tore an inner pocket.

Though last two times I flew I had to be full body pat down because my balls showed up in the scanner. And last time I had an ace bandage on my leg.

Disagree.

That is a pretty huge part of the story.

How f'ing hard is it to get ammunition past TSA? This bs was most likely an inside job in T&C

So how did you react to the Griner deal?
She broke the law on purpose, yet our pumpkin head went to the national defense of her dumb arse.

I hear you, but shite happens.

I flew to NYC once and realized I had a buck knife in my suitcase when I got to the hotel…had been on a hunting trip about 2 months before and used that suitcase. I had checked the bag, so that’s why it wasn’t an issue, but it certainly shocked me when I felt it in a bag.

A friend that worked for a governor accidentally carried a pistol onto a commercial flight (forgot it was in this bag) He quietly handed it to one of the troopers while on the plane.

Months ago, perhaps. Regarding the link in the OP that we are discussing, it’s irrelevant.

Their legislature admitted it was bad law and changed it. That’s the story today.

I think the issue is they are making it through US screening and getting caught during the screening in Turks and Caicos.

There's no bigger redneck or hunter than me and I've never even come close to making such a mistake.
Well you're certainly not wrong that it ultimately falls on the individual to take responsibility, but that doesn't negate the fact that a sentient, otherwise law abiding human being ought not have to rot in jail over it.

Hell we let serial pedophiles off with a slap on the wrist, and they're just as dangerous as an inanimate piece of brass and lead. Why shouldn't Turks and Caicos throw them in jail for a decade too, since they're potentially dangerous to society?

Answer: because it's dumb. Wasting away in a penitentiary for, "what COULD HAVE happened" is an egregious human rights offense.

I know you'll probably dig in and entrench yourself with this bad take even more, but there's no justifying losing YEARS of your life and raising your children and being in love with your wife over a goddamned piece of stray metal. There's no way around it: The punishment doesn't fit the crime. Period. End of story.

Its not hard for a housekeeper to slip a tiny .22 round in someones luggage while they are at the beach. Easy way to scam tourists as they are getting busted while LEAVING the island. They dont check tourists on arrival. bullshite law

Who just randomly carries shells in their travel luggage

I’ve probably found rando rounds running around in my bag 6-7 times before heading out to greet the tsa. shite happens, especially when you shoot a ton and use the same luggage. I don’t have a “range bag”. It’s always when I buy rounds and throw the box in the luggage. I get where I’m going and take the box out to load 3-5 rounds then throw the remaining rounds on the luggage without closing the box. Hunting is like that at times.

It’s not like I’m smuggling in an sbr.
