So he just said that out of nowhere, or did you (or some other tool) say something that warranted that type of response?
Did you miss anything else?

I been thinking about doing this. I’ve been a plant baw for 26 years and to be honest, I’m fricking tired of that life.
Would like to spend the next 10 years driving/seeing the country while coasting into retirement.
My uncle retired and within a year he was bored out of his mind. He learned how to operate a rig and got his commercial license. He's an owner operator and only does dock to dock so it's not too hard on him. He's currently 69 and plan on doing it until he no longer can.

How hard is it to get routes that land you near LSU away games?
Always wondered if you could pull off a few away games a year for football and baseball. Would be huge job perk!

So do linemen, welders, engineers, mechanics, software developers, and hundreds of other trades and professions. Are we supposed to thank everyone for showing up and drawing a check?
The interesting thing is if you take a step back and look at it the lack of shitting on a profession by the OT is actually condescending. It is like a pat on the head.

S*^|e company
2001 Freightliner
Territory is from as Far East as Bolixi/Pascagoula, as far north as Osyka/ Columbia, far west as BR/ Morgan City, as far south as Fourchon.
Home every night but the work is definitely not forgiving on the body.
Wouldn’t change it for the world.

Not a driver but involved with trucks. They pull tanker trailers only, hauling base oils, transformer oils and chemicals. Company guys make 100k/year and good owner operators average 7-8k a week after fuel.
Truck notes run $700-$1000 a week. A new truck runs roughly 220k…pre-covid, you could buy a new truck for 150k. It’s outrageous. Business minded owner operators make a killing if they are willing to work.

quote:Easily! Just communicate with your FM and ask them to send you on a load near or a pass thru where they will play and you can bring a load to your destination on Thursday/Friday. Park and do your reset/weekend etc. Go to game. Get a rental car and hotel or just sleep right in truck. Just park at a big truckstop(Loves,TA,Pilot) , you got your showers etc. Many truckers plan their loads around vacations etc. An LSU game is easy to plan.

Worked for Crete for the past six years but have been sidelined fighting cancer. Was supposed to go back this week but docs found an enlarged lymph node they want to biopsy - if it's just inflammation i'll head back next week, if it's cancer...well...who knows.
I miss it though, been driving for over a decade. Been all over the continent and experienced things that I never would have been able to do otherwise. Working during the shutdowns sucked because there was nothing to do but work, hence why I'm eager to go back. I miss parking near towns and finding things to do.

So why did you present his statement as though he randomly said people should thank truckers?

Everything is needed for us to have the lives we currently have. But surely you have the capability of seeing that the movement of goods is on of the most important? We can survive without a lot of services that many think they can’t live without. Let freight stop for a few days and watch what happens. Not to mention these truckers are away from family for weeks at a time. They have to live in their trucks during that time. It is an incredible sacrifice that deserves recognition.
