You really should see a doctor, but it may be a symptom of a hiatal hernia.

Bro, you’re going to need to use smaller words if you want the OT’s help.

It sounds like an esophageal issue... It's fairly common, actually. There are minor procedures that can be done to essentially stretch the throat.

Now, if you're talking about reflux issues, that is different. But I know a few people who have had similar issues swallowing and had to have their throats "stretched".

You might have a condition called achalasia. Basically, your esophagus is not functioning properly. The wave-like motion called peristalsis isn't happening. T

I have had it for 10+ years, and it is a pain. I even had surgery for it, and it helped some. The lower end of my esophagus is essentially paralyzed. Some days, I can't swallow a thing.

Go see a gastroenterologist. They will determine how serious your symptoms are. They might make you take a barium swallow and / or a test called a manometry. They might also want to take a look down your esophagus with a endoscope and figure out if you actually need treatments.

There are several treatments, like stretching out your esophagus, botox, heller myotomy surgery, and the newest surgery called per-oral endoscopic myotomy. There are holistic remedies, but they don't work for me.

Good luck, man. Get it checked.

It amazes me that other O-T posters ever heard of achalasia, let alone have it. I felt like the only person in the world when I was diagnosed and treated about 10 years ago.

Fellow heller myotomy / dor fundiplication alum here. Helped for a while, but symptoms came back.

The worst part for me was the manometry test. When I had it, I had a coughing fit. The tech said "if you don't stop coughing, we will have to do it again". My response was "Nope. We aren't EVER doing that again.

That could be a serious sigh of cancer.

if O-P goes the a gastroenterologist, they would likely take a look with an endoscope, and they definitely check for esophageal cancer.

LSU Coyote, get it checked, seriously.

If you swallow after masticating, one of us has been doing it wrong.

Lol yeah that manometer test was no freaking joke! I wouldn’t wish that on anyone!

The OT is a magical place. Sometimes.

You probably need to go to the doctor. My dad had a similar situation where he had to have his esophagus stretched out with a surgical procedure.

Same thing happened to my pops

You need to see a gastroenterologist ASAP. You probably have a narrowing in the esophagus. Most of these are easy to fix with a scope, but sometimes can be caused by cancer.

Yes. My BIL had this issue - same down to the unable to swallow and water not making it down.

He had some major inflammation in his esophagus. His doctor ended up recommended a food elimination diet to identify what was causing the inflammation.

Esophageal web, achalasia, eosinophilic esophagitis, esophageal stricture, esophageal mass... many things can cause this. Go see an ENT.

Do you smoke/use tobacco? Did you at some point smoke or use tobacco for a while?

Pain with swallowing? Frequent throat clearing? Change in voice? Cough? Any inner ear pain or an itchiness that just wouldn’t go away?

Nope. Not even once. I also don't drink, actually haven't taken a sip of alcohol in 8-10yrs.

None of those symptoms, only trouble with food making into my stomach. It always gets stuck at the very bottom of my esophagus. Feels like it sits right on top the ring.
