Here's my story

TRIGGER WARNING: if you have the attention span of a gnat, this thread is not for you. not sorry

*clothes are stained and smell bad. hours of troubleshooting with samsung online, on the phone and two different service calls on the machine*

We finally made a breakthrough.

We already had a technician examine the machine and reported no defect found. A second technician from the same company reported the same but, advised that we get a second opinion from a different company.

That person actually made an insightful observation. He was having the same trouble at home with his whirlpool h.e. washer; clothes weren’t getting cleaned. He observed that the amount of clothes that seems reasonable actually isn’t. Since the water level of the cycles is really, really low (hence, h.e.), the clothes at the “top” of the load are not getting water or agitation.

I responded that I had read to use the bedding cycle to increase the amount of water in order to address that problem. He noted that doing so makes clothes float to the top of the drum, away from the wash plate which agitates. So, that doesn’t solve the problem either. The bedding cycle has more water because the bedding absorbs more yet is heavy enough to stay anchored to the wash plate for agitation.

His solution was to reduce the amount of clothes he was using and to increase the “soil level” setting so that there was greater agitation. When I say reduce, I mean to the water level. That is probably going to be much, much less than what most people are used to. Our “normal” cycle setting only fills the drum with 2-3 inches of water. That is a tiny amount of clothes.

The result – it worked. I had to wash smelly shirts 3 times but, they eventually started to smell fresh as in, the smell of the aroma enhancer/detergent products we use in the wash. They had been getting so bad over the last year that I was about to start throwing clothes away.

This brings up the point that the h.e. aspect of the washer is a misnomer. Yes, it uses less water but, without a traditional vertical agitator, the amount of clothes that can be effectively washed is so low that we’re going to end up running the washer for 3 times the number of cycles we did on previous washers which means we’re going to use the same amount of water anyway. It’s a ripoff. And no we’re not saving the planet given the colossal amounts of pollution being generated by asia, Africa and india.

All of our socks are stained so bad, I can’t get the stains out, even with a spray pre treatment and bleach. I don’t really need the bottom of my socks to be pristine so I’ll let Samsung off the hook for that.

The moral of the story is, I wish the documentation had been clear in regards to the amount of clothes that can be effectively cleaned by any cycle. Here is the statement from the manual: "Fill the tub with dry, unfolded clothes." As it is, Samsung spent a few hundred dollars in out of warranty service fees and hours of phone troubleshooting.

I hope that helps someone dealing with the same problem

My wife's sister had a Samsung that had problems. I dont know if they ever got it resolved. Glad you got yours resolved.

I have a Kenmore Elite top load with the 6.2 cu ft drum and never had any problems with it. 7 years running.

Speed Queen Top Loader

It’s Loud

It eats a bunch of energy

It uses the frick out of hot water

It takes a long time to cycle

It simply cleans the frick out of clothes.

I have bought two of them over the past two years.

Wonderful purchase, would do it again.

New machines suck. Throw it away and buy a pre-2007 whirlpool/kenmore made direct drive washer.

I love how it's the exact same machine, panel and control as a 2001 maytag. Lol
Alliance is a smart company.

Not only that, when I work on.old maytags I use the Alliance part instead of the whirlpool parts (whirlpool owns maytag) because they are cheaper and have a good warranty.

Why did you buy 2 Speed Queens in 2 years? Did the first one break? I heard the new ones are not very good. is this true?
I thought about getting one, but now I'm unsure.

I always buy a spare of everything.

I married a twin (fortunately for me her twin is a sister).

I had my member circumcised twice for good measure.

I always shite, shower, & shave twice every morning.

Are you sure yet?

My wife is from The Netherlands. (For those who are Geo-Ignorent, that's in northwest Europe).. For years I heard how great German washers were compared to our "American trash", so I surprised her 12 years ago and bought her a $1,700.00 Miele.

The beast weighed 350 lbs and came with a stand that cost me another $150.00. She was sooooo excited that she was washing things that hadn't been worn.

While she was shaking with admiration I was surprised how small the wash area was for such an expensive machine. A large hand full was about all that fit.

I'd work outside and toss my filthy clothes in there and she'd pull em out saying "don t mix those nasty clothes with these slightly soiled ones".

WHAT????? So I would do mine separately and they would still be soiled (but less). So I'd run em through again and occasionally again. I read the book and called Miele in Germany, and asked what to do. I was told to make smaller, CLEANER loads. add extra water, and use a better detergent.

So I went to Lowes and found a badly damaged but new Speed Queen piece of cosmetic and mechanical rubbish and hooked it up in the garage. $275.00 delevered and installed. One LARGE (HUGE) load and lotta noise and such a miracle .... clean clothes.

The new front load crap is the same idea as that German piece of crap my wife still polishes.

The End

It sure looks like it's too small. It has an agitator which means a king size comforter is just going to cling to the sides and get wet. That speed queen pictured looks like a regular size washing machine. They definitely don't look like they are designed for big loads. That's the reason I went with a Kenmore. 6.2cu.ft tub. If speed queen only makes a 4cu ft tub, I won't buy one.

Had Samsung and than god and the garbage man they are gone. Had more issues with the dryer and washer than it was worth. I had an extended warranty and in the first two years they changed the heating element and pulley three times . Washer had 4 computer boards and one tub blow out in 3 yrs. My Samsung’s you could adjust the water level for each cycle.

Finally got my money back from the extended warranty company and bought Maytag units.

Maytag front load 5yrs old no problems. Yes, I set my water level to my liking when it was setup.

Better than the HEs, but for heavily soiled items I’d be wary of the 2018 SQs.

Have you done any more digging into the latest SQ models and the changes that have been made to them?

Does anyone make a good old fashioned, center agitator, NON HE washing machine that will use enough water to actually clean clothes ( besides SQ)?
