The horizontal extent of the clouds is attention getting.
Go to the second video at the beginning of this thread. Look at Tampa Bay and at the storms billowing up to the southeast of Tampa.
They aren't coming off the heat of Tampa Bay and are to the north of Naples...are the Everglades the source of the heat?

Which leads to the question: maybe: how much of the rainfall in southern LA is coming off the heat of our swamps?

Non nerds: I can explain this entire graphic with an image.

And it's going to rain a lot. That Pwat is pretty high at 2.28" and with low level flow cranking out of the gulf, should have no trouble sustaining some extremely heavy rainfall rates. The column is saturated all the way up to 150 mb, which is way the frick up there.

That's what the HRRR is picking up on to produce those swaths of a foot plus rain.

The gulf airmass in general is your fuel. You just need a trigger and with a tropical system nearby it isn't much. A seabreeze (or lake breeze) boundary will throw storms up easily in this environment.

I was coming here to get your assurances that the HRRR is out of its mind. Now I guess I’ll go ahead and pour a whiskey.

Location is tricky but when the HRRR and NAM start popping big precip totals on a tropical system they're generally onto something.

Not focused on the exactly where it's showing but that it's showing swaths of a foot plus of rain.

Is that rain just hitting Texas & SWLA or is this being rain through EBR and up into Miss?

What are we hearing from the private meteorologist?

All of south Louisiana has the potential for some large rain totals. It's hard to figure it to a finer detail than that currently.

We have some higher winds and lightning on radar now. 94 mph at around 8,500ft.

But seriously, he was a godsend for so many here ...

Its been trying to build a true core off and on all day and shear has been hammering it all day.

Another thing to keep an eye on, might get some spicy gusts in the main band. Not like frick shite up gusts, but take out your power for a day or two gusts.
