Had an ex gf believe the 1st down stripe on tv was painted yellow after the team got a 1st down. She kept saying, “they can paint really fast”. Told her it was a giant yellow roller that painted the line. Went on for several weeks. She got pissed when we went to an LSU game and asked why there were no painters running across the field.

I'll do all sorts of subtle shite to make her think she is crazy.
I want to ask if her name is Paula but I doubt anyone will get the reference.
To the OP
The car story reminded me of when I was in highschool (1983) I convinced my GF that my '67 Mustang has rain sensing wipers (which existed but rare in 1985).
The early Mustangs actually had a foot control for the windshield cleaner and the pump was dead on mine so I used it as an intermittent wiper, so it was easy to fake a rain sensing wiper. Mine had the Pony interior so it had a full center console so she couldn't see my left foot pressing it.

She didn't know that since childhood?
I think the point was he should have known that - she just didn't think of it.
That said, you wouldn't necessarily be able to use the light positions at night.

It was my sister in law - after a trip to New Zealand I told her the first thing I did was flush the toilet and watch the water swirl in the opposite direction due to the Coriolis effect. This part was true. Then I asked her "have you ever wondered why there are no developed countries on the equator?". She said "no" and I told her that on the equator the water can't swirl in either direction, so they can't have flush toilets; and countries can't develop without good sanitation.
She believed it.
She believed it.

I used to enjoy telling mine that yes the clear liquid in my glass was water, so that I could watch the reaction when she gulped down some only to find it was vodka. She got pretty pissed, but I still fooled her twice. Stopped her from drinking from my glass, though.

That used to happen to my baws and I when we were younger. All of our dishes were always dirty, so we'd just mix up a 20oz or 2-liter of Coke with whiskey. Sucks waking up in the morning and taking a big swig of mixed drink
