Staying at the Millenium Knickerbocker off of E Walton and N Michigan.
Your pretty close a ton of stuff. Red Line is close by, so you dont need to drive.
Food:
Yolk - great food, but long wait at times
Wildberry - long wait time, very good food
Peace Pizza - Not deep dish, but very good
Lou Malnatti's Pizza - best of the deep dish to me
DMK Burger Bar
M Henry - great breakfast
Portillo's
Garrett's Popcorn - go early, always a line out the door
Things To Do:
Walk the Mile
Shopping on State St
Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg
Millenium Park
Cloudgate (The Bean)

There are a million steak houses in Chicago, I went to one that was really well regarded (can't remember the name, but it was near magnificent mile next to a shake shack) and was underwhelmed. I live in LA and visit Vegas and New York a lot so for me I can go to a 5 star steakhouse any time. When I was in Chicago I focused on the pizza, hot dogs and Italian beef; the stuff I can't get at home.
I wouldn't worry too much about which steakhouse to try, just check Yelp for the best reviews that's convenient for you to get to.

I'll second portillos, Lou malnatis and yolk.
Of all the chain pizza parlors, Lou's was by far my favorite. I didn't like geno's east and giardanos was ok. I never made it to pequods but many people here(and Chicago) recommend it.

Yes - LSU. I'm assuming Stanley's is the LSU bar?
That fellow below who posted Standard (in Wicker) would know better than I...I just recalled that Stanley's was the LSU bar, but of course, it looks like that has changed.
Wrigleyville/Lakeview: Hit up the bars around Wrigley (Murphy's, Slugger's, etc.). I also like Old Crow around here. If you can stand being in an Alabama bar, I've never had a bad time in Houndstooth.
Logan Square: Absolutely must go to Longman & Eagle.
Wicker Park: The aforementioned Standard if that's where you're watching LSU. I like Big Star a lot for outdoor drinking, and the Violet Hour is one of my favorite spots in the city.
Bucktown: Map Room is pretty cool
Ukrainian Village: The Empty Bottle has live line dancing and dirty-cheap drinks from 5 to 8 every Friday. I love this spot.
Lincoln Park: A million options...Barrelhouse Flats, Summerhouse Santa Monica...too many to name. It might not be a bad time to hit up North Avenue Beach, too. The J Parker at the Lincoln Hotel is a can't-miss if you can get up there.
Old Town: Depends what you're looking for, but it can range from douchey (Benchmark) to laid-back (Wells on Wells)
Gold Coast: I really like the Public Hotel for cocktails. Also the bar at the Peninsula Hotel (Hotel Bar Chicago) is damn cool as well. It has an old school, classic feel.
West Town: Piece Brewery and Pizza has a great rooftop.
Honestly, that's just a start. I'd google around for some more.
The weather looks to be awesome this weekend, so enjoy the city.

How is the L in Chicago - best method of transportation?

Prayers sent. Try not to look like a tourist, or you'll get mugged.

This is FANTASTIC. Thanks!

The Purple Pig
Girl & The Goat
Pequod's Pizza
All of those...And Au Cheval for a burger (get hash browns, not fries). If it's just you and the lady, you can probably find bar seats at Girl & the Goat at around 5 or so if you can't get a reservation. Worth it...don't skip the pig face or goat belly.
Agreed on the neighborhoods part...get out and bar-hop in Wrigleyville or another spot.
If you want an upscale cocktail bar in the Mag Mile area, the Berkshire Room is my spot. Another cool tiki bar spot is Three Dots and a Dash

Generally, yes.
However, if you're staying near the Mag Mile, the Red Line is the only close-ish option, and it doesn't easily connect to some parts of the city. I'd take the Red Line if you're going anywhere in Gold Coast, Old Town, Lincoln Park, and Wrigleyville/Lakeview (basically everything east of I-90/I-94). Even for some parts of that (like the eastern halves of Old Town and Lincoln Park), I'd take an Uber.
You'll either need to find your way to the Blue Line somehow or an Uber for everything west of the interstate (Logan Square, Wicker, Bucktown, UV, etc.)

damn - Girl and The Goat's earliest reservation times for my entire stay are 10:45pm

The L is a great way of getting around. But it depends on where you're going to be going.
It's great for getting from downtown to Wrigleyville (and other north side neighborhoods) or from downtown to Wicker Park/Bucktown/Logan Square.
If you're going to other areas I would use Uber or Lyft for a relatively cheap ride.

If you decide to drink and want food, go to cheesies!

Cubs vs Pirates in town. It will be playoff atmosphere and likely decide who gets the home field advantage for the 1 game Wild Card playoff game.
You have to be around Wrigleyville for that! :W:
I've heard I have to eat a burger from Kuma's.

Decent, but there are better.
Au Cheval is the gold standard, but it can be difficult to get in there.
I like Dryhop, Butcher and the Burger (a personal favorite, actually), and DMK more.

Dryhop is close to Wrigley, isn't it?
Posted on 9/22/15 at 11:30 am to nukelaloosh
That's why you grab seats at the bar

Yes, somewhat. It is actually right near (or in) Boys Town.

Went at the end of August. Went to a Cubs game Saturday but before the game I went to Half Acre Brewery which isn't too far from the stadium. Got beers and brought in Lou Minalti's pizza while we drank and then went to the game. Was pretty awesome

I did Half Acre a couple years ago when it opened in the morning, then Revolution later in the day. That was a rough day. Went to some bar that had hipster/chic tailgate food. I see it was the Off Site Bar at Longman & Eagle that had Saturday Sausage Shop. Not sure if it's still going on, but it was pretty good. Twin Anchors had great ribs from what I remember. I wish I could remember the three or four Mexican places I've been to there.
