I'll be traveling to Chicago this weekend, and wondering if anyone can help with ideas of what to do out there... I'm looking to stay away from the "touristy" spots, and get the real feel for Chicago.

Also, and most importantly, what's the best place to catch some football on Saturday?

Kingston Mines is an awesome night spot.

For some reason I love mother Hubbard for sports.

Honestly the touristy stuff in Chicago is not all bad. I wouldn't do Navy Pier and that sort of thing, but:

Architecture Boat tour. You must absolutely do this.

The bar at the Hancock building.

Walk the Mile.

Eat at:

The Purple Pig
Girl & The Goat
Pequod's Pizza
Longman and Eagle

Staying at the Millenium Knickerbocker off of E Walton and N Michigan.

I'll be hitting a cubs game Friday, so will likely stay in that part of town for the entire day.

The Untouchables tour is fun. Takes you, by school bus, to all the gangster haunts and gives you the history. The guys that do it are in persona the whole time. Heaven on Seven is a great place to eat if its still there on Wabash. Lincoln Park Zoo gorilla exhibit is top notch. Museum of Science and Industry is great as is the Art Institute if you are in to that.

Cubs vs Pirates in town. It will be playoff atmosphere and likely decide who gets the home field advantage for the 1 game Wild Card playoff game.

You have to be around Wrigleyville for that! :W:

Go to the Standard for LSU on Saturday.

For a museum I would go the Museum of Science and Industry in Hyde Park. Also, Chicago has a pretty vibrant China Town that not many tourists know about or go to.

Architecture boat tour is great too.

Also try the Goose Island brewery. Its not too far from the stadium if I remember right. Fox and Obel is a great place to pick up lunch and a beer.

Who is your team?

If it's LSU, go to Stanley's in Lincoln Park (Sedgwick/Lincoln/Armitage intersection).

Chicago is unique in that virtually every bar worth its salt is affiliated with a program. Some (Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, etc.) have 5 or 10 affiliated bars. Notre Dame has upwards of 20. But even schools like Alabama, Texas, Florida, USC, Washington, etc. have affiliated bars here. If it's not LSU, look at your university's Chicago alumni website: they'll have it listed.

As for Chicago itself, get outside of the Loop/Mag Mile area and out into the neighborhoods (Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville/Lakeview, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, Ukrainian Village, West Town, etc., etc.). That's where the real beating heart of the city is.

is the bleachers an absolute must? I actually purchased tickets in section 131 which is behind first base. I'll have my GF with me if that matters....

Yes - LSU. I'm assuming Stanley's is the LSU bar?

Also, any recommendations for those neighborhoods? I'll be at Wrigley Friday, and will have Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday to explore the rest of the town.

For a series like this, no.

The whole place will be wild.

I will say that the bleachers have the most, um, talent.

I'll vouch for this. Most of the touristy stuff u have to do, with the exception of navy pier. The hop on hop off trolley is a great way to get around the downtown and magnificent mile area of the city and see all the sights
