10 hour drive. If it's more I fly. If it's less, I drive.

It's not flying you don't like, it's people.

Not me....I like people, I can start and have a conversation with just about anyone. I hate airports, airlines and airplanes....security at a major airport even with pre-pass is insanely too long. Its also largely unnecessary. Airports are soooo badly managed as to be comical....if they don'y have enough gates stop having so many flights....it is pretty simple. Airplanes are by far less comfortable than a greyhound bus even in first class, forget about coach and airliines operate as if they are doing you a favor letting you fly with them....it is, from start to finish, a complete shite show....especially when traveling with someone else. Alone is much better but still less enjoyable than getting kicked in the nuts while having a root canal done with no Novocain....

Under 8 hours, I prefer to drive for personal travel.

I can be in Orlando in 6-6.5 hours driving.

It's an hour to the airport.
Let's say you want to be there 1.5 hours early.
Flight time 1.5 hours.
Time to deboard, get luggage, get to ground transportation, 30 minutes.
30 minute drive from airport to destination

Total travel time: 6 hours
If I drive, I have my vehicle, and don't have to deal with the airport.

How has someone not posted it depends on long you're at the destination for?

Matters yes.

But not much. Have reached point in life that will pay to reduce time, effort and risk.

Travel a lot for work. Day trip flights are not uncommon.

Plenty of variables. Luggage & Bags to bring? How long will I be at destination for? How much travel once at destination?

Drive time alone used to be 12hr max for me. Now honestly my arse starts hurting after sitting & driving for a while so I'm rethinking that to more of the 8-10hr drive max.

BR to my brother's in TX is about 6hr/45min drive time, call it 7hr/30min total with decent traffic & accounting for 2 stops along the way. Call it $150 in gas.
Flying is 1hr drive to airport, 1.5hrs at airport, 1.5hrs flight, 1hr drive from airport to brothers house. So at best only 2.5hrs saved. Then price. Me, wife, kid for flights I just checked on Southwest would be $1,500 so that's immediately a no go for me, and there were no direct flights.

Drive time/available time
#People and bags, cargo
Will I need a car once I get to destination?

6:30-7:00 hours…under that just drive.

Exactly.

Prior to 9/11 I would have gone as low as 4 1/2 hours. Especially during the 55mph era.

What corn?

I'm not saying that there is a bunch of corn out west.

I'm saying that, to get to the nice, hilly, mountainous west, (which I don't mind driving in at all) you have to drive through the Midwest. The Great Plains. The flat expanses of soybeans and corn and sorghum. While they are essential to the United States and I'm thankful for them, I'd rather fly over them and rent a car in the west than drive through them

They are boring
