Travel ball parent/employees/co-workers are the worster. frick those lazy motherfrickers. You have x number of personal days. If you choose to waste them to drive to itasumba, bum frick Mississippi to see Braxton play bawl don’t come crying for more when you want your Destin vacation to go watch Braxton play in USSSAAPGF Fall Brawl World Series Super XVI.
Really not much different than ole Ricky and Mark spending $400-$600 apiece on duck calls and a massive amount of money on camouflage clothes and guns in the winter on top of doing ridiculous labor to build a square box out of plywood, old aluminum boats and faux pottery to camouflage themselves from birds. Or spending tens of thousands of dollars on a “lease” on a piece of property that’s not even yours and HOPING to even see a deer.
Since you’re clearly upset about people spending their vacation hours or taking days on things you dislike, let’s not act like there are guys that don’t keep all their time and stack it up for the last two months of the year and take it all at once.
Point is, people spend their time and money on what they want to spend it on.
My kid does play TOURNEY ball. Because the farthest we travel is about an hour away. While I do agree that the names of the World Series’ are ridiculous and so overdone, my kids club generally stays in the area.
This board just loooves to start these threads and put the spotlight on a very small minority.
It’s been a couple months for the OT and a tourney ball thread so this one is about right on time.

Not that I mourn the end of professional sports, but it is all part of the plan to eliminate toxic masculinity.

Okay guy. Yea I’m so trolling about 10k. I’m well over 20k last year if you really want me to start adding all Baseball and softball and volleyball related expenses. Cutting out club moving forward.
After 5 or 6 years of this college would be fully funded, correct?

We can drive two hours to The Woodlands and play against competition as good as any in the country.
No, you are playing against 5 that are as good as any in the country. Go play in the Dye Invitational, the Jones Cup or the Ping Invitational and you will see what National golf is about.

My neighborhood was built by an Indian family development company who are reputable builders here in Delaware. I’ve been here since 1999, original owner. It’s a very diverse neighborhood and has many white, black, Asians, and Indians.
I noticed the Indian kids out a lot. Playing basketball, skating, playing cricket, riding bikes. It was so nice to see. But even better is I started to notice the black children out doing the same more and more. Then the white kids. Now our neighborhood is extremely active. It’s so nice to see pick up volleyball games at the park or see 20 kids on roller skates laughing and whizzing down the street.
I think the Indian parents don’t let their children veg out in front of tvs and games. It caught on I’m glad to say.
I don’t know if this is common, but I’ve watched it in my area and it’s a joy to see. Never thought just watching kids play outside would be an anomaly and bring such joy.

It sets unrealistic precedents for the kids. Someone said it the other day on a different thread, if your kid is good enough let them come to you.
All these kids think they are hot shite but they've never left where they were born. There's a lot out there and a lot of folks hungrier.

Also parents aren't honest with their kids.
Focus should be school first.

I live in a bit of a resort community, but golf and tennis have exploded among the kids in our area.

I'm not reading through the while thread. I'm going to guess that the usual's are in here talking about how they love vacationing in Crowley for tournaments and it's helping their kids so much.
I sure hope these people are dedicating as much time to Braxxtyiin's homework as they are his hitting lessons other wise when he doesn't get that scholly for DII Ball it's gonna get real.

Everyone has to compete at some point…you try and position your child to welcome that because they are confident in their preparation. If you can provide national coaching level technique and national level competition…then hey, if they do come your kid may be ready.

Understood that national golf is expensive. But the model of traveling two hours west to play against stiff competition has been the template that our coach has used for decades and has pumped out dozens of collegiate players.

How do scholarships work for college golf? Do SEC schools offer 4 year full athletic scholarships to a number of boys…or is it like baseball where you get partial? Surely golf kids are smart enough to supplement with academic.
Posted on 11/14/23 at 7:53 am to Gaston
Scholarships are partial. Kids that are focused enough to be good golfers are generally good students also. Therefore,
they carry a high GPA which help with with additional scholarship funds. Several of the kids in our area have completed two years of undergrad studies while still in high school. As a result their scholarship ends up covering the front end of they're graduate studies.

My daughter played t ball and it was bad enough she didn’t want to play this year. We just practice at home which is what she actually liked.

As someone graduated in physics from LSU…how is this even possible? You’re just going hop past Modern into E&M and Mechanics (both sophomore, 2XXX, level) with your high school math classes? I can’t even imagine that first semester.

quote:I think this is valid. Also, even in the last 5-7 years you have seen a rise in the number of terrible travel teams and a consolidation of the elite player into very few legit programs.
Kids are bailing out of sports faster for many reasons, one of which is that “travel” has infiltrated just about every sport at younger and younger ages. Kids get weeded out early and many decide to give up rec sports if they can’t play travel. It’s attached a stigma to rec sports, which shouldn’t exist but has really hurt rec programs and participation numbers.
Additionally you are seeing a ruse in individual sports. The freedom to set your competitive schedule, schedule your own practice, and the general enjoyment of tennis and golf will see those sports continue to increase.

I can’t imagine dragging my entire family to tournaments every weekend in some underwhelming town. Have these people ever thought about their other children that have to do this for Jaxson?
in my case i have 3 boys, all 3 played at some point, oldest likes fotoball and throwing in track way more and despises how much work baseball take to be good.
but he has a choice to stay home or go and he always chooses to go because he likes supporting his brothers and they go to his games. Only exception is when he has lots of homework over the weekend.
travel ball is what you make of it and despite what the OT claims, its not year around for 90% of teams, kids mainly play atleast 1 other sport and some people can afford to max out the 401k, live in a big house, have plenty of spending money and be able to afford travel and lessons for multiple kids.
and its not about getting kids scholarships. yall should stop with that shite as all non scholastic scholarships outside of basketball and football suck arse anyways. Its about letting your kid chase his dreams. let him have fun. and honestly if you arent playing high level travel ball and plan on goign to a school that is good at baseball in this state, houston area, dallas area, or austin area.....yea good luck making that team because you are. hell if you are not playing high level aaa by 12, you more than likely are not going to make the team.
there are some exceptions escpecially in the big schools in texas where they keep 30+ kids in each class because they have multiple fields and 10+ coaches on staff. but in LA, schools like Barbe, Sam Houston, WM, Catholic, STM, Tuerlings, Jesuit, BM, the AP schools....yea good luck making that team playing rec ball...get laughed off the field at tryouts.
the people i see on here bitching about it fall into a couple categories
1) they are older and their kids only played rec and they are way out of touch.
2) people that dont have kids and never played sports growing up
3) people that have kids that dont play sports
4) people that value time drinking at the hunting lease or fishing camp over all else(majority of the OT)
5) people that are just jealous because they cant afford it and their mad their kid is getting left behind.

This is not a new concept. My younger sister took her first two years of college curriculum in high school over a decade ago. Advance courses are available for high achievers. Don't' ask me to name them off of course for course but she rolled right in to Cincinnati no problem.
