I know why cheerleading is down. Everybody wants to do competition cheer now. It's basically the travel ball equivalent. I'm pulling my daughter out of cheer because if it. The time and money commitment just doesn't equal what we will get out of it.

Id imagine fatigue on the kids has to start happening. Some of these parent take that shite too seriously. Guy i knows buddy has his kid running drills 3-4 times a week in addition to the practices and has the kid swinging weighted bats and measuring exit velo. Kid is 8

Good god. Wtf are you doing? There are 8 trillion better uses of that much money in many different ways, eg, financial, family time, saving, etc.

Did you just come on here and confess to the world you spend five figures on little league softball in hopes that your daughter gets a college scholarship from it and then call someone else out of touch?

And people complain about the ROI of college.

Kids are bailing out of sports faster for many reasons, one of which is that “travel” has infiltrated just about every sport at younger and younger ages. Kids get weeded out early and many decide to give up rec sports if they can’t play travel. It’s attached a stigma to rec sports, which shouldn’t exist but has really hurt rec programs and participation numbers.

I can’t imagine dragging my entire family to tournaments every weekend in some underwhelming town. Have these people ever thought about their other children that have to do this for Jaxson?

I'm late to the party on this one but whatever.
For those saying that junior golf is expensive I beg to differ. Our local course allows unlimited free golf (and range balls) for anyone under the age of 18. Lessons aren't free but not outrageous either (The course the next town over has free lessons for resident juniors). We've played in 9 tournaments the year all with in an hour of the house. Fees for tournaments have all been $60 dollars or less.
Additionally another beauty of the sport is that you don't have t be gifted with D-1 physical measurables to get to advanced levels.
For those who think golf is for "pussies" think of this scenario. Imagine showing up on a Sunday morning on the first tee box with 30 other kids on the practice green watching you from just a few yards away. In your mind you no that this is tournament golf, there are no mulligans, no two off the first tee. Every shot counts. I would imagine most of you key board warriors would be a little weak in the knees to say the least.

That is totally dependent on what level of junior golf you are talking about. Local is not bad, regional is doable for most, but national junior golf is hella expensive.

Who says golf is for pussies? It is a perfectly fine sport.

We can drive two hours to The Woodlands and play against competition as good as any in the country. At our age group green fees are $50 over there. Our goal has been rounding our game into a form that compete against the girls of that caliber.

Youth travel soccer was that way, and the boy ultimately would rather be with his friends on the weekends…and 4 games every tournament was too much when the fields got bigger.
This year, if I can remember, has been Orlando, West Palm Beach, Athens, Oxford, Gainesville, Auburn, Fayetteville, Gatlinburg, Gainesville, Oxford, Fayetteville and Atlanta this weekend. Orlando finishes off the year…but we need to fit in a lesson outside of Dallas if possible.
Yea. Fun times. Son would probably rather it was over for the year…but sometimes commitments are to give back to those who’ve helped you.
