so i would wash by hand first with dawn and a brush. then spray the tongues with shout and dawn power wash
then wash on high heat with oxy clean and detergent.
then dry like i described.

while I agree that the travel ball model is nutz (grown ups ruined it for the sake of money)..... it's sad to see lower participation in athletics.

but they really didnt
a) tournament ball rose up because they offered a better product and people were tired of their 8 year old that can throw it 50mph playing with other kids that are trying to pick flowers in the middle of the game or at 12 where they throw 70+ and other kids on the team literally show up with a toy tball glove. the range in talent was bound to eventually produce leagues where just the all stars played against other all stars
b) once that started happening and people saw how much better the tournament kids were getting, there was FOMO. but the orgs like usssa, 2d, pg all just offer tournaments that are a better product than league ball.
also people realized playing baseball for 3 months then putting the ball down for 9 months was not a good model for development. especially when they realized the DR kids were training and playing year around and were taking over. it was bound to happen.
now its to the point, in most places where the HS team is really good...you arent making the team without playing high level travel and every year you wait to get into higher level travel the further you fall behind unfortunately.
sucks some really good athletes are left out due to money, time etc but is what it is, natural evolution.
as far as participation goes...travel/aau/club sports have been around. baseball participation was up 13% from 2012-2019....something happened in 2020 that changed everything....just cant put my finger on it!!!
oh yea COVID and our idiotic response to it...just maybe maybe had something to do with the drop after that time.

Tennis being way up is refreshing. Some of us are old enough to remember Americans dominating the sport.

No time to read the whole thread, so this may have already been said, but COVID forced stoppages on many team activities through schools and recreation leagues. I feel like the jump in individual sport participation, such as in golf and tennis, could be result of that. Plus, the other things mentioned here already like expenses and time commitments.

Hot soapy water and a brush for outside, take the toungues and rub in some of that bleach gel. Let sit for a couple hours, then hit with a hose or pressure washer.
Then lay to dry in front of the fridge or freezer.
Or buy new ones...and never, ever, ever buy Adidas cleats with the knit in them. My kids football cleats stink so bad you had to pack a rubbermaid container to put them in to transport around....they were gross.

Brushed them in the sink with Woolite and water, then Shout and brush on the knit. Rinsed well.

Travel ball kids and parents are the reason participation is down. they need to be quarantined off and separated from the general population.

yea im sure its that, even though participation was up from 2012-2019....somethign about 2020...cant put my finger on it.
also not to mention participation in travel is up
but please explain how travel ball effects league participation from others and how travel parents seeking high competition means they want to be quarantined off and separated from gen pop
oh and lastly please show me where the travel ball parent touched you
or just explain your experience with travel ball since you seem all knowing.

This is quite the statement coming from the "bull" guy.

my kid is 9. this is his first year playing travel baseball. He previously did karate, and baseball is cheaper by a grand a year. He loves to play baseball, and we love to watch his progress. I have no issues with this unless they schedule something during deer season.

Did he get his black belt?

My son is 10. He plays rec baseball and soccer. Next year he wants to play competitive soccer. The rec seasons are just way too short and he loves soccer a lot more than baseball. So we will try it out. I enjoy watching him play and I'm his number 1 fan. But I would never force him to do something he doesn't want to do.

It really should just be ‘club’ ball at that age. Contact your closest team now. Hopefully they’re developmental and not fully competitive for a couple more years. My son was not that lucky.

That's exactly what it is. 9U and 10U are "developement", 11u to 15u is "competetive", and 16-19 is academy.
ETA: At least that's the way I understand it. I will learn more about it soon. Sign up isn't until April.

A lot of things are down and it's probably due to the economy. Kids sports are somewhat of a luxury and when money is tight, they drop out.
