I worked in hotel management for 10 years, and I talked to a lot I these parents during down time for these tournaments. I can tell you that many of these guys own their own companies (a lot of landscaping and construction). I got the feeling that early on they searched for the types of jobs that would allow them to travel for 8-12 weeks per year.

As usual you pop up in threads not knowing wtf you are talking about
LOL Please. You think travel ball is that deep?
quote:
By potential do you mean potential to play and start in HS? Because if you don't play travel at a high level you aren't doing that for the good bigger schools like barbe, st louis, sulphur, Sam Houston, stm, TC, catholic, WM, or any of the catholic league schools.
No, I meant playing college. Why would you ever waste your time and money just to have your kid secure a starting HS role?
That makes it even more hilarious that you think this is that important. You do you but the whole thing is a joke.
quote:
I'm not mistaken you don't even have kids that play sports like most of the dumbasses that come on complaining about travel ball.
My kid is an infant and the other yet to be born
quote:
mean seriously wtf do you or the others without kids that play at all even know about it? Wtf do you even know about what potential is?
I played ball in high school. I have friends that do it. Again, not that deep of a thing.

No but I'm not gonna make the decision if my kid can play hs ball when he is 7 or 8 either. And nobody said travel ball is that deep, it isn't that expensive either.
And it's fine if you don't value you your kids but I can afford it with no problem. My kids play multiple sports, they hunt and fish etc.
So why wouldn't I let them play and make the decision for them?
And I played in hs, it ain't like it used to be. And little league sucks(i know, i coached last 8 years), not to mention there are only a handful of 13/14 year old leagues in the state. Do you really think a kid can go pkay just little league, sit out 2 years, then go make a hs team over kids who have been lifting, taking private lessons, doing bat speed and velocity programs and playing 40-50 games a year since they were 7? If you do....then no hope for you.

Maybe its that important to the kid?
If he's got the time and money...

Honest question: are there any stats showing what percentage of kids that played travel ball make it to the league? I know it’s a small percent in general for any kid that plays any organized baseball. Is there a known dramatic increase if the kid plays travel ball?
And for those confused or angry about the running jokes, this snippet should be enough to clue you in on how and why they started and will continue

I played PONY for two years after little league, and started 3 years for a top 50 TX HS team, so you can cool it with your smugness.
Not every kid wants to play baseball 24/7/365.

What is damned cool about that? What am I missing?
Meeting the champions in any sport at any level is pretty cool to some people. They were on a schedule with a list of tailgates to visit on their way to Tiger Stadium.
So you're also making fun of dozens more LSU Fans who were happy to meet these kids and their parents that day.
Oh and I guess LSU was stupid to honor them during the Auburn game later that day.

It’s like honoring the spelling bee champion of the retard class.

I'd like to meet a spelling bee champ. I'd challenge them to spell some Louisiana stuff.

Not every kid
No smugness but it isn't 2005 anymore and there are about a dozen 13/14 year leagues in all of Louisiana.

Honest question, do you think parents sign their kid up to play travel thinking they will make it to the league or even college? Because I don't know a single one that starts travel thinking that at all.

Is it just an assumption that every little league coach has a kid on the team?
Posted on 8/21/22 at 2:53 pm to philly444
Some of these “elite” travel ball teams have professional coaches. This IS their job. They don’t take time off work because this is what they do. They probably teach private lessons on the side too

Nope, Gen X, retired Marine that not only gets a pension but also a VA check for 100% disability and I'm a sales engineer with a national company about to retire a second time and go to work for someone else just to keep as many milinials as far down the pole as I can personally. How am I doing so far?

So not doing travel ball is now not being supportive of your kids?
I hope for your kids sake they get an education and come out smarter than their daddy.
