You put a bullet in that dog you will be locked up for life in Angola. You would be better of shooting the owner. Probably only get 5 years for that.

Disclaimer: Don't shoot either

Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray is your best bet.

Always be carrying. For my kids, it turns into "Always be charging."

Damn, I knew you could lease a set of rims to stunt in, but a pit to intimidate your neighbors, no freaking way!!!

America, what a country.

Carrying a pistol resolves the problem permanently but a taser may be more entertaining.

Time to call a real estate professional and list your house.

I use the term “professional” very casually.

Good luck deciding upon which pit bulls are dangerous or not. Many "good" pit bulls have attacked their owners seemingly out of the blue. Thus, all pit bulls are dangerous! Their killing instinct has not been bred out of them.

Pit Bulls need to be outlawed in this country.

Those dogs are super strong and have jaws of steel.
They were bred for one thing and one thing only and that was to kill.

I know it will never happen though.

What needs to happen is owners need to be personally responsible for any and all attacks their sweet lil darling angel PBs do.

I'm talking about felony manslaughter, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon... along with lots of prison time and heavy fines and restitution.

To the OP, I would suggest raising cane to the HOA if there is one for your neighborhood.

Call the police, they may not do anything but at least they will know.

Go to your local city council and bring it up. Raise hell to the mayor, your local city/town councilman...

Start circulating a petition in your town.

You should not have to live in fear in your own neighbor hood.

To those who say 'choot em', good luck, you might have 1, maybe 2 seconds to react.

And you better be dead-eyed aim with you one shot. Or you are about to get mauled.

Bear spray is the better choice.

“Oh, don’t worry, he’s a good boy, he don’t bite.”

When owners say that to me, I always answer that he hasn’t bitten yet. Show me that a dog has zero teeth, and I’ll agree he can’t bite affectively.

massive pit bull. Like 70+ pound dog.

There are 70+ pound dogs and then there are pits.

There is a ton of strength and leverage packed into pits including their jaws.

There also has to be a reason why a dog with such strength, leverage, and biting power isn’t commonly used by law enforcement or the military.

They don’t have a fence and leave the dog to just chill in their driveway.

While walking my dog, the dog barks at us and bows up, but has not charged us yet.

Having a fence in a neighborhood seems like it should be a requirement before getting a medium or large dog much less a pit. Seems like city would have a code about it. If they got dog at 70 pounds it’s a pre-owned or rescue (shady rescue without requiring proper fenced yard) and still getting to know it making it even more ignorant to just leave it outside without a fence and not on a leash. You walking your dog near it makes it more likely to get triggered at some point.

Has there been a consensus on what is best non-gun defense to carry while walking another dog if a loose pit shows up and starts fighting your dog?

We don’t have many pits in neighborhood, but even with fence and leash requirements they get out and cause issues every so often. They aren’t shy about finding and confronting people walking their dogs. Our dog may have 20 or more pounds on many pits but still know he wouldn’t win a straight fight with the pit much less while being hampered by being pulled back or away with leash against a loose pit. He is also very strong and protective and would be harder to control if loose pit starts a fight or just comes around making using a gun safely problematic on top of our son walking the dog some as well.
