Which as mentioned factors into the "common sense gun control" debate. To the extent there was room for compromise there, there is absolutely no reason to consider doing so with people willing to tell you that up is down.

This can't be said enough.
Progressives have won the culture war and are in full propaganda mode now. This is what "winners" with no morals do.
Things will only get worse from here.

I’m a huge proponent of the 2nd Amendment for what it does on the surface, but also because I don’t believe the 1st would have much teeth without it. However, let me play devil’s advocate. The “shall not be infringed” mantra is pretty selectively used by us on the right. I still struggle with that phrasing if taken literally and as an absolute. We are afraid of the slippery slope on one side, but do we really trust the government—who we don’t trust at all—to determine who suffers from “mental health” on the other? If anybody has ever sought counseling automatically labeled as having mental health issues? Because that would both prevent a lot of law-abiding gun owners from being able to legally own them. And likely prevent people perfectly capable of handling guns responsibly from seeking help if necessary.
The manifesto should absolutely be released, regardless. I just don’t trust the people I already don’t trust to decide when our 2nd Amendment rights shall, in fact, be infringed.

None of their arguments should ever be taken in good faith. Their ultimate end game is to position themselves to be in complete control and eliminate dissent. Once you understand that fact, you can deal with them appropriately.

They're masters at the long game. Every incremental "common sense" idea they put forwards is immediately followed by yet another "common sense" idea until they achieve the goal that they said they never intended to implement (and called you a conspiracy theorist for predicting).
