That is what I was wondering. Not sure if this a cause an affect or is it just a down year for the ports. Or is the uncertainty around the trump admin. Hard to say

NOT FOR THE SKYSCREAMER!!!!!! She's already made up her mind and published an article for everyone to see and pull their hair out over.
SHE'S THE BESTEST REPORTER! NO HIDDEN AGENDA! We have the best reporters in the world don't we folks?

Hell, the markets are just starting to react to the fears of a trade war.
I purchase items that have been hit with import tariff fees over the past month so that is not totally true.
And the person who wrote this OP article probably is a loon with shady facts, but there will be a point where it does negatively affect our exports if this trade war crap continues.

Business has been booming the last few years, it’s just back down to a more normal level.

if i was libtard / prog filth journalist or politician i also would probably try to blame a Trump policy on all countries' problems.
separating children
building the wall
trade war with canada
trade war with china
peace on the korean peninsula
police murdering black people
gun control
tax reform
name a problem, spin the wheel, and poof you've got something or someone to blame your problems on!

Shipments to U.S. Ports Soar on Rising Retail Demand, Trade Worries
Everyone has their own spin it seems.
quote:
n the first half of the year, retail imports shipped to major U.S. ports are expected to reach 10.2 million 20-foot equivalent units, a standard measure for container cargo—an increase of 3.8% over the same period last year, according to the National Retail Federation.

yes seriously i am curious on how these tariffs are going to and have started to affect our country. You stated its to soon to tell if the down turn is due to the tariffs. I have a cousin in Tenn. and a friend in Texas who work at steel mills and the tariffs are booming there industries right now. It's not to soon to tell what it's doing to them or Harley Davidson or the Nail maker who is laying off 500 people.

I import from China, my product falling under the proposed 25% tariff. I'm watching it closely, but I'm not doing anything different as of yet. With how easily and quickly Trump changes his mind I'd bet that the tariff's get canceled before July 6th. If not I'll have to suck it up. Haven't pulled any money out of the business outside of salary for 15 years. I'll have to wait another 15 years if we start paying a 25% extortion.

Pricing can react quickly. Look at gas prices that fluctuate daily. I never said or talked about the price of goods. This article and my comment pertain to what is arriving in port right now. Are you telling me they turned ships around mid-ocean or have them floating parked out in the Gulf? Because that is the only way that shite in the last month is affecting what is in port right NOW.

That WSJ article says shipments are soaring essentially because exporters want to get into the US before the tarrifs really take effect.
quote:
Volume also is surging as companies, anticipating the coming changes to U.S. trade policy, have ramped up orders for parts and products from their overseas manufacturers to reduce the financial impact of new tariffs. “In the face of uncertainty, people are building up inventories,” said Lora Cecere, an analyst with research firm Supply Chain Insights. “I don’t know in the last two decades when we’ve had this level of nervousness in the supply chain.”
