Both the Supra and new nissan Z have been major flops and whoever came up with the strategy for either company should be fired.

Seems like a LOT of manufacturers these days are spending hundreds of millions developing cars that appeal to younger enthusiasts, it gets hyped in automotive media for YEARS, but then once it finally goes on sale 3 years after the first announcement, they get priced at a level where virtually no younger enthusiast can purchase it and the model gets discontinued after 3 or 4 years of dogshit sales.

The new nissan Z, even after receiving heavy discounts from MSRP, is being advertised in the mid 50s. The people who have 60k to spend on a "sports" car don't want a fricking nissan lol.

Or people have a twisted idea of what pricing for these vehicles should be. In 1994 the Supra Turbo MSRP was just a tick over $43,000. The 300z Turbo was just over $40,000. Adjusted for inflation, that's $94,000 and $87,000 respectively, today.

Seems like they did an amazing job bringing these cars to market at a relative bargain against their previous pricing.

Underpowered for the segment, IMO.

What do you consider its segment? It is pretty quick around the track compared to anything I would consider it competes against directly, but that segment is pretty sparse IMO.

Its an awful "sports car". No where in the realm of the original Supra which is highly sought after due to its indestructible 2JZ engine. Guys are making 1500 HP on stock blocks.

This is some V6 trash made by BMW.

This post shows you know almost nothing about cars certainly "sports cars".

Thank you. People have no concept of inflation when talking about cars.

The last Supra was expensive at the time. I lived it.

I think they went for a little less than that, my dad was seriously looking at them back then after his 3000GT got totalled by a CPSD deputy. The main reason he couldn't pull the trigger was that the only available models were 6-speeds and my mother couldn't be trusted to drive a manual. He had a new Mitsubishi GSX before that 3000GT, actually had to take it back to the dealership and get it swapped for a GST because of that issue too.

Low to mid 40s for a Mk4 turbo is dead on. I was cross shopping them with the E36 M3 at the time and the turbo was a couple of thousand more, I paid just under $41k for the 95 M3 I ultimately bought.

If you get a chance to drive one, they are pretty fantastic.

This exactly.

Most people crapping on the new Supra either have never driven one or are too hung up on the nostalgia of a "Fast and Furious" car. It's a legit great car to drive. My wife, no pics, would be driving one right now if she didn't need rear seats from time to time.

You could get a non-turbo model for around the mid to high $30's. The floor for the Turbo was always $40k. The 1993 model, which was the firs year of production, the no option base price for the Turbo was $40k. Things like A/C and Leather seats were options back then as well. Prices we're typically closer to the mid 40's since I don't think I ever saw one shipped without A/C.

The 3000GT VR4's were at a MSRP of over $41,000 themselves. The GT3000 / Dodge Stealth twins had a lot of variations and prices were all over, but the tip of the line stuff was very expensive. I believe the fully optioned Stealth was around $36k.

Everything I've seen is that the Lexus LFR is supposed to be at least $250,000. Definitely not the same category buyer as a Supra. That's Porsche 911 Turbo money.

Yeah I know... At least Toyota hasn't completely abandoned the V8 at this point.

Sounds fantastic. I was behind a LFA in July. I rolled down the windows in the dead heat of the day just to hear the shrill the LFA makes. It's one of the best sounding sports cars I've ever heard.
