The main problem here isn't specific to this photo IMO. The problem is that a large portion of our population thinks it's funny/edgy/cool to disrespect something just to do it. Burning the flag, wiping your arse with the flag, stepping on the flag, etc and posting pictures of it on social media. Nobody has respect for anything anymore... which plays a large part in why this country is so fricked up.

Knowing my grandfather as well as I did, I can say without a doubt he would LOVE to know there is a place honoring him and his comrades while also bringing happiness and joy to people's day.
Pretty sure his generation fought/died for the very fact they wanted future generations to live joyful lives brought on by the freedom they helped preserve.
He took a machine gun bullet to the knee at Anzio. Lived the rest of his life serving others and died before the WWII memorial was finished. It is one of my greatest regrets that "Pop Pop" didn't see the memorial. If a couple people jump in the fountain, I'm not gonna get pissed.
if this were Arlington, the Alamo, or even the USS Arizona I would have a different viewpoint. But no service member died or is laid to rest at the WWII Memorial.

Talking in certain places and circumstances is offensive. Like the middle of a church service or other places that people think are sacred. Even if you yourself don't consider it sacred, you should be considerate of other people. It's the decent thing to do.

Here's what you're not getting. I don't get "asshurt" when I see people being disrespectful at places like this. All it does is make them look immature, ignorant, and trashy to me. About the only emotional response I get is disgust at them mixed with pity that they grew up without ever being taught the concept of how to show respect and conduct themselves in public.

What I'm saying is why would anyone think any memorial is a an appropriate place for laughing and frolicking in the water? Do you understand the purpose of a memorial? There's a place for everything... if you want to play in the water, go to a water park.
