I've rented cars locally and non locally several times. Never needed anything but a drivers license.

Also, if you have a Costco membership and do not rent cars through them you are failing. No one beats their rates.

Just got back from NC where I rented a full size SUV for a week. Paid only $225 at Budget when booking with Costco codes. Without codes the price would have been $460.

Sounds like she's trying to rent using a debit card and not a credit card.

You're the guy that can't figure out why a debit card won't suffice.

Sounds like you're the one that needs to do the listening.

Yeah if you have a job that lets you use the corporate rate for leisure it's pretty nice.

I think I can rent a 4 door car for around 130ish a week or so.

Such a stupid belief. If you're buying things online at least, and basically anywhere else, not using a credit card is asinine. Between reward points, fraud protection, and additional perks a credit card is a staple of anyone with even the slightest financial acumen.

Anyone who has rented a car or has ever stayed in a hotel knows about the debit card policies associated with them.

Yes. Most adults do.

Also most responsible adults carry a credit card, especially if they travel.

The only reason they asked for the utility bills is your friend wasn't using a major credit card. He was more than likely trying to use a debit card.

ETA: I see this has been answered. Worked for a major rental company for years.
