I'd venture to say that most people who visit New Orleans for the first time leave disappointed.
i'm sorry you and your family thought waddling around Bourbon and eating fried seafood constitutes "New Orleans," but not everyone is as destitute and oblivious as you.

No, it isn't. That's why the Michelin guide ignores it.
You can argue the food greatness, for sure. It isnt new york or LA like the food board claims, but it is top tier.
And the Michelin guide doesn't even do L.A. (it looks like it's only New York, San Fran, and Chicago)
That's not why it "ignores it" (New Orleans). How silly a freaking statement!

I must be the only one that doesn't think New Orleans food is all that great
Let's hear about the shitty tourist trap restaurants you've been to. I need a good laugh.
I bet you waited in line at Mother's didn't you? Got some authentic New Orleans food at Oceana grill huh?

I'll take that turnover rate, as long as another 12 million come the year after and the year after...

Michelin only does a few cities in the world. It does a lot of smaller restaurants in Asia and stuff like that if they are truly exceptional, but Michelin has a very limited focus.
NOLA isn't in the same leagues as New York or Paris obviously, but for a city of its size the culinary scene is exceptional.

Too late for them. Next year it's a Carnival Cruise for their vacation instead.

I bet he waited in line at Acme as well, then decided to go to Mulates for some real southern seafood.

Another bash New Orleans thread from people who live Maurice or some bumfrick town lol
The tourists that were robbed were from Maurice?
You don't have to be in a small town to know New Orleans is a terrible place to live. I'm in Pittsburgh and word of New Orleans being incredibly shitty has certainly reached me.

While I am not a fan of Bourbon Street, the French Quarter does have some amazing spots. My wife and I love getting a drink at the Hotel Monteleone and strolling up and down Royal Street while looking at the art galleries and shops. Another favorite activity of ours is to start our mornings off early with a coffee and streetcar ride to Audubon Park and to walk around the park.
New Orleans can certainly be enjoyed in many different levels.

that's nice as frick, but that doesn't mean I would book a house like that in such a bad area.

7th ward + 2AM + 5 females + unfamiliar area + walking home from the Dome after a "Puff Daddy" show = DERP

I agree. In my opinion, it's in the elite level of the US.

I guess that's sort of the "Midwest" of Louisiana. I can see how he'd be confused.

New Orleans has an economy that's largely based on tourism these days. This is a bad headline and it should not have happened.
That said, it was probably people that have never been there and wouldn't know the issues with that area. A good lesson for all of us when we travel to unfamiliar places.
