It’s probably a good thing that Amazon isn’t looking to keep any of the existing structure of the Cortana mall. It’s likely going to be completely leveled and replaced with what might be Louisiana’s largest distribution center.
Wonder what happens to the other buildings that won't be owned by Amazon like Dillards.

Everyone goes to Best Buy to look at an item you want to buy off amazon before you buy it.

WAFB posted an article yesterday that e-commerce is the reason for the failing of Cortana...yeaaaaaaa that’s it.
I mean, the mall is literally being demolished for an e-commerce distribution center to take its place

Sad how malls are kinda dwindling, lots of memories in those places.

I wonder if the same or similar fate awaits the Esplanade Mall in Kenner.

I remember before Cortana Mall was there and they used to have the state fair there. That's where I saw the thousand pound man laid out like a pancake on a big round bed in a glassed-in room with his private parts covered by a small towel.
It was pretty weird and I felt really awkward gawking at him while he looked back at us.

I wish someone could tell me the name of the seafood restaurant that was in Cortana. It didn't last very long, but I'm pretty sure it was a familiar name for a BR seafood place.

I moved to BR by myself for college in 2008. First week I was there I went to Cortana because it was the closest mall to me and it was pretty dead except for the unsettling amount of culcha going on. I watched two fat arse cops chase and tackle a young sneaker enthusiast in the parking lot for some elaborate jewelry heist he had just pulled off.

Cortana was absolutely awesome in it's heyday.

I'd guess that the location is more ideal for light retail fronting W Esplanade with residential in the remaining portion.
Amazon is also looking for a permanent location for its little "regional" distribution center in Baton Rouge and for a new location for a similar facility in the New Orleans area, Lafayette, and up in McComb. All of those will eventually be fed from the new giant Cortana fulfillment center.

Bet they find Jimmy Hoffa's body in the concrete.

Don's?
The restaurant I remember most in there was the massive Picadilly near one of the entrances, but I can't remember which one. In the late 1990s, that place was packed - with both lines open and a full dining room. It was essentially a 1990s equivalent to The Chesecake Factory.
Way back then...if I were very well behaved in the mall, my parents would let me get banana pudding at Picadilly.

I would bet that the new Amazon fulfillment center will employ almost as many people (between the floor workers, sorters, maintenance people, and truck drivers) as the Cortana Mall did in its prime. Some of them employ up to 1600 people.
If malls aren't coming back, I'm glad that the Cortana property will be used to facilitate and support e-commerce.
An Amazon fulfillment center in Baton Rouge will mean that UPS and other carriers are going to have to beef up their presence in south Louisiana. There will be a ripple impact.

Possibly, but I don't think that's it.
Piccadilly was always a go-to place for my family when I was growing up. If I recall, the Bon Marche Picc had waiters in white coats to help carry the trays out for people, and the Westmorland Picc had the waiters and also an organ player on weekends.

That was way past its prime. It started going downhill in the late 90s.

RIP Record Bar.
Thanks for the 5-finger discount on the Metallica- Cliff 'Em All VHS circa 1988.
I know Maureen saw me and said nothing.
