It’s been storming with heavy rain & lighting in Lebeau, Big Cane, and Goudeau since 3 or 4 am.

The reflectivity on that Ville Platte cell looked as classic as it gets. Rotation broadened out some through town so hopefully it lifted before Ville Platte. It was definitely on the ground before that. Tight couplet, classic hook, and low CC.

Is this one of those things where a rural La town is 25 miles away from the center point? Closer to Palmetto is dry.

Yea the flood threat was realized in that area for sure. Just couldn’t predict where it would stall

This shite is so stupid. The decision was based on the fact the storm arrives at almost the same time dismissal would have been. Not that hard to understand.

I also guarantee the same people bitching about school being closed would the same ones bitching when a bus gets blown off the road.

Weather is unpredictable, however radar does not look good at all after 11 today.

This has got to be one of the slowest moving systems we have seen in a while.

tOT always knows baw. Won’t ever let anyone down. 10 am yesterday.

Upper level flow with this big trough shifts out of the SW and parallel to the front overnight. There’s nothing to move this front until this longwave trough shifts farther east and westerly flow sweeps it out. The same areas that got a ton of rain Sunday morning will get a lot more into Wednesday. HRRR with big totals through Acadiana, St Landry Parish. Baton Rouge will get a bunch of rain but the line should be kicking out by the time it gets into SELA

SPC noting in this discussion that some part of the Level 3/5 (enhanced) risk area may see an upgrade to a Level 4/5 (moderate) risk with the update due out by 10:30

so go to school for half the day and make the decision at that time if school should just be half the day or the full day. Not that hard to do.

Has literally never happened.

Weather is unpredictable

sure, but it becomes easier to predict the closer we get to the event. They could have easily gone to school in BR for at a minimum half the day and then made a decision.

And i completely understand doing a half day if the weather is going to hit right at dismissal time. Hell even if it was just severe rain without much threat of tornadoes i'd still say do half a day. Doing carpool and buses when it's raining cats and dogs is a bitch.

You need to start listening to better people if they said it was going to rain in BR all night. Looks like the expected isolated cells are moving in now before 10 am which usually counts as morning.
