Crews currently working on finishing up the damage survey from the tornado that spanned from Dyer to Henry county. They should be finished by the end of the day today. Stay tuned.

It's truly unbelievable to see. I can't imagine seeing this in person.
We ended up running supplies for the first responders at the "front lines" that night in 2013.
Seeing the firefighters coming out of Plaza Tower (7 kids died there), with their heads down and blank stares was brutal. They were in total silence.
This is what was left of the school:

edit: by the way, for the "rookies" out there, if you want to see what EF5 damage looks like, look at the top of this photo. Those are driveways with all the houses attached completely gone. And it was easily a mile of this kind of damage in Moore, just north of 19th Street. FUBAR.

I guess there will always be debate on at what point EF5 damage "starts", but high-end EF5 damage is one of those things that once you have seen it once, you just know. There's no doubt when that threshold has been well exceeded.

I am not qualified in the least, but when you look around and there's not a single man-made structure standing in the vicinity, you know.
I hope I never have to see that again.

I turned on TWC earlier and they have "Tornado Outbreak: Live Coverage" in the bottom right corner.
Too bad they didn't have that after 11pm Friday.
ETA: Joe is rambling about things now.

How many people say in Mayfield are displaced?
How quickly can water/power/gas be restored?
How do you even begin to find housing?
Where TF do you even begin to start?
I will say that they seem to be busting arse to get things done ... did Louisiana move this quickly after the hurricanes???

Those cheaply made/anchored homes just have no chance to an relatively strong tornado.

There is a particular home in Bremen that is drawing a great deal of attention. It is probably in that video. Slabbed and swept. However, some of the ground damage is being misinterpreted. It is still high-end EF4 to EF5 damage in that area.

Crews will work to "work around" the damaged areas. They will re-route electricity and other utilities. It took five days for us to get power back after April 27, 2011. The source of our outage was the Hackleburg/Phil Campbell long track that crossed the Tennessee River and took out high tension power lines, cutting power to thousands.
Power had to be re-routed around the extensively damaged areas, relying on existing, undamaged infrastructure to get power to undamaged areas.
They have a specific plan and method to safely restore utilities as quickly as possible. Now, though, unlike in April 2011, the cold snap behind the front is a concern.

Reed Timmer is live on FB now doing a break down of the Quad-State Tornado
Posted on 12/13/21 at 12:16 pm to tiger91
Kentucky has opened up state parks for housing for tornado victims. It’s hoped they will be available for at least two weeks.
A shelter has been set up at Mayfield High School for storm victims.
From the footage I have seen, 2/3 of the town is completely gone, and most of the rest is heavily damaged.
Before midnight, the governor declared a state of emergency based on major tornado damage in multiple western Kentucky counties.
He activated over 180 Kentucky National Guard members as well as Kentucky State Police.

As of Monday morning, Gov. Beshear said the fund has raised $4 million.

What kind of on the ground support are you seeing so far? Are the relief organizations/groups starting to filter into the area?
