It depends on what the surgery does; repair or remove and then how much of the TM is torn. If you have a higher than normal threshold of pain, maybe a week.

Had surgery for three meniscal tears in my right knee on Friday 12/17/21. Started putting weight on my foot on Monday 12/20, down to one crutch by New Year's Day, no crutches a week later and full recovery by February 1st. Refereed my first soccer match post-surgery on Feb 10.
Less than 8 weeks to full use and recovery.

A torn meniscus doesn't "require" surgery, unless you are a professional athlete or a very active runner. I torn a meniscus two years ago and was fine in a couple of months. I was walking normally and without pain in about 3 weeks. I have no issue at all with it today. They will definitely tell you that you need surgery though.

Tore mine about 2 years ago also. It would hurt the most at night when I was lying down which seems kind of crazy. Knew a few people who had the surgery and they all developed arthritis in the surgery area. I was going on a hiking trip out West after the injury so I had an injection in the knee before the trip. Thats been a year and a half ago and have not done anything to it since. I don't even notice mine unless I have to squat down for an extended amount of time. Then it feels a little stiff when I stand up.

Nah. But it’s on the Salinas highway. Church campus that sits on top of the hill on the left side just past the race track.
Some real good guys, former college players, international pros, guys who have been playing their whole life. It’s sanctioned/directed by a great guy. We try to get as many runs in as possible, very few arguments, just good basketball.

Well here’s the MRI results. So I presume surgery is my only option.

What were your symptoms? I have knee pain when I go upstairs and get out of a chair, is that meniscus?
From what I read on the web to “test it”, stand or lay down and try to straighten your knee fully. Is it painful?
Another is to stand up and put weight on the bad knee, then rotate your body/hips left and right to put a twisting motion on your knee. Is that painful?
From what I gather, the meniscus is basically cartilage between your leg bones and provides a cushion between the upper and lower leg bones. Basically anything that would put pressure on it will cause pain.
And like I said, it doesn’t hurt all of the time. I’m sitting in a recliner right now and it doesn’t hurt. But if I get up to walk around the house to get something, it may or may not start hurting. Sometimes after I sit down, then it starts hurting.
Last night I went to bed and was relatively pain free. About 2 o’clock in the morning, I woke up to throbbing pain in my knee that kept me up for over an hour. I’m like, “WTF? I Was laying in bed sleeping for a couple of hours, why are you hurting now?”

Quality of life.
Is it swollen?
Sometimes you can rest an injury and avoid surgery, but if it persists, have it fixed.
