The first one I went and the surgeon made me walk out of the hospital on day 1. The guy had me running within 2 weeks.

2 months later, I was having it re-done by a different surgeon because it was totally torn again. Do physical therapy and don't push it too hard.

My 3rd son, while he was 19 and playing college baseball, had a complex meniscus tear and the surgery utilized about double the normal stitching. It took him about 6 weeks to return to normal and he had an 85% chance of it being successful. It was.

And, here I am at 67 and my left knee is starting to get sore on the reg now. I’ll get it checked out soon.

I had it on a Friday and went to work the next week. Mine was a clean out and not a repair -- even with a repair you could go to work depending on what your job is as with a repair you can't put weight on it I want to say for about 6 weeks.

Part of it too is how they wrap your leg after -- I've seen people with a very light wrapping just above and below the knee. Mine was almost to my very upper thigh and nearly to my ankle -- that's just how Dr. Perry did it. There was no walking even if I wanted to (without crutches) but when the wrapping came off 48 hours later I had to start exercises and weight bearing.

I have an office type job and it was my left knee so I could drive myself there and back. Wasn't awful at all. I had the surgery in October and ran a 5K the night before Thanksgiving so about 6 -7 weeks. Was going to PT for other issues with my hip so had them work with the knee a little bit as well.

Oh and it was torn for years -- like YEARS -- as no doctor took me seriously and said I "didn't walk right" and needed supports in my shoes. I'm talking like 20 years.

I would go ahead and get it done if you have time. If not, it just becomes a nuisance over time.

I was back to normal in 3-5 days but did PT to get back to playing sports sooner than later

Give it 3-4 weeks to be safe

I went to work the next day. The knee was swolen for a couple weeks and sore even longer but I could still get around just fine.

Yeah I'd do it too -- I was SO miserable running with the pain midrun and the swelling. Was so glad that I did it. It was a breeze. I remember cooking dinner that evening, doing laundry and sat in a chair the next day to take pics at a 5k finish area.

Doctor says I can hold off on surgery for now unless the pain gets too unbearable.

How long were you off your feet and not able to go back to work?

Back to work the next day on crutches. I waddled the Crescent City Classic 10 days after surgery.

It's the most minor shite ever. Take the nsaids, keep the swelling down with ice, and don't overdo it.

This is a good explanation of a meniscal repair and the rehab protocol of a repair.

Had both cleaned up at different times. Gimped around the next day. Walking around within 3. Back to normal in a week.

Dr. Walker (BR) did surgery on my right torn meniscus and I was walking the next day and back to running 10 days later - 1997.

Timely post. I've been putting off surgery for my torn meniscus for several weeks. We tried cortisone - no help. Next we tried Gel-One injections into the knee - again no relief. Looks now like surgery is the only alternative.

I've been putting off surgery for my torn meniscus for several weeks.

Last April had mri show a lateral tear. Couldn’t get off work to schedule surgery until January. Surgeon went in and saw that in the time it took for me to get in there, I had torn the medial side as well. Cleaned up both. 6 weeks of PT, going back to work this Monday.
