yea, thats not how TOPS works. 2.5 is the baseline regardless of ACT score
It's Hammertime. Amazing shite happens to him and only him, Lester!

Your low 20's ACT score really shows in your posts. It all makes sense to me now.

I had a stud teammate on my team in highschool. Poor guy had to score a 16 to secure his athletic scholarship at a major D1 school. So I retook the test for him at a random school. We looked similar so i just showed up with his info and took it.
Some of you come up with such BS

25 is above average or at least it was at the time. i only took it once, as a Jr, because i qualified for tops

It needs to be totally revamped. Clearly from what some officials say it should only be offered to the at need individuals who can qualify for PELL and other fed grants.
Screw the middle class who would bend over backwards to try to better their kids' future. They are just here to pay taxes anyways.

32. I guess it averaged out or something. I was a shitty student, and continue to be to this day. Either way, I lost it basically after the first semester's 0.75gpa
Ole Miss was blowing me up with the offers

I know several 17-21 scores and they went to law school or got their MBA. I know people with scores over 25 and are living with their mom and don't have a damn dime to their names.

Smartest guy I know has the least motivation. He was a computer engineering major at LSU and had a job lined up with AMD. He dropped out to work at Guitar Center

Don't know if that is true or not but years back it was not uncommon for people to sneak and take the test for other people.
Now, they have a picture of you on file there and they keep the same picture for three years. That picture must match you and your id.

so do i.... the ACT is useless as a measure of intelligence..... its really more about financial aid and appropriation of funds than anything...

No, the original intent was to slow the brain drain, and give state residents an incentive to attend college in Louisiana and hopefully stay here.
I was speaking of the Taylor Plan, from which TOPS was born.

Base TOPS only covers the Tuition not any of the "fees" such as the academic excellence fee or flagship fee. There's also the cost of dorms and a meal plan.
Tops is "tiered" but not by much. When I had it the top award was tuition +$800 a semester which still didn't cover the fees.
I say raise the standard since there are plenty of need based scholarships out there.

When we did it they had your DL on file but your school id could be used at the testing center. I took it at tara. All my proctor saw was a white kid bith brown hair and similar skin tone. It wasnt difficult and a lot of people did it to get tops.
Hell i saw kids swap answer sheets and test packets at catholic because one was good at math and scoence and the other was good at reading.

Aren't there enough minority/raced based scholarships already?
No need to make TOPS into another one.

Can you get your family to use their state legislative connections to get me some federal college grants?
Posted on 1/26/16 at 12:12 pm to Lester Earl
im just frickin with you man. i took that shite 4 times, and couldnt get over that 30 hump to get the next level of TOPS. Just wasted my money (well i guess my parents money) and my saturdays.

One of two things needs to happen here because people are going nuts with TOPS:
Either make an income level cap of the parents to make it a way for lower income families put their kids into trade school or college, or -
Raise the ACT scores and stiffen the curricular prerequisites so that not every child graduating high school qualifies for this. A 20 on the ACT is a freakin' joke, and most of the prereqs are as well.
It was never designed to be a free for all like it's turned into.
