The hipster counterpoint is a wash.

New Orleans is becoming infested with them, and will eventually reach Austin levels.

I agree with the OP. For me what puts Austin over the top is the lesser trashiness and crime, and superior road quality. Nola's third-world roads uptown are a disgrace to modern society.

Ain't no thang, can't sweat over things beyond our control. We lived in DC for 3 years so anywhere else other than NYC is cheap to us

If you took those cowboy tickets out and replaced it with a wad of cash, I'd highly recommend Lexington, maybe Louisville.

Night and Day. Austin is infinitely better than NOLA.

Would anyone dispute this?

New Orleans is the best music city in the country.

Is Vegas not in this country anymore? You can find better music there any night of the year and that includes when JazzFest is going on.

The OP is way overrating Austin these days. Austin 2014 is a far cry from Austin 1980 or even 2000. Now it's fake, crowded, and over-priced.

As far as entertainment, Bourbon St./FQ owns Austin and it's not close.

(coming from a former Austinite w/lots of family still there)

Galatoires - which is great
Strip clubs
Frozen daiquiri shops

95% of the FQ, and I love watching people get shot, getting held up and watching people get mugged, catching a pick pocket with her hands down my pants

FQ absolutely blows. I hope you like German cockroaches on your food because every kitchen in the neighborhood is riddled with them

I've read most of your post in this thread and somehow I get the feeling you are like the redneck who comes to N.O. for a visit and walks up and down Bourbon all night and goes home to tell his shithead hick family what N.O. is all about.
I mean seriously, you say you lived here, did you ever venture out of the quarter?
Apparently your knowledge of the local scene, especially with restaurants, bars, art studios, current events, all kind of suck.

Where did you grow up? Gonzales, Denham, or Port Allen?

I've never been to Austin, so I'm not going to make a claim about which place is better, but your postings about N.O. kind of suck donkey balls.
