Or just do the night training after 1 a.m. when most commercial operations have wound down for the night.

Idk id like my military pilots to know how to handle densely trafficked areas at night time.

Regardless as it has been mentioned this was supposed to be an easy flight.

Id like them to not be next to an extremely active runway playing with innocent lives. One of us is logical, the other is you.

Gotta train them somehow, especially if it's a check ride…If that’s the best answer we’re doomed.

Coming in hot to say the same thing. How many military bases are within a 100 mile radius of Washington D.C., you know, the Nation’s fricking Capital?

You didn’t see Maverick or any real world “best of the best” training at LAX, there’s a fricking reason they’re at Miramar!

All that being said I thought Air Cavalry conducted training and was based out of Fort Hood?

Apparently, if this is true, there was another close call just one day before this crash…

Look I've known pilots. Lots of really good pilots.

You can only simulate so much before you have to experience these things in real life.

If not now then when? How does one garner that exact experience? Night flying in a congested area.

Maybe they should hold off on the helicopter training for a little while. At least until they can hire enough competent air traffic controllers so one controller doesn’t have to worry about planes and helicopters flying in the nation’s capital.

I was a tanker long ago. And by long ago, I mean the late 80s to early and mid 90s. I don’t even recognize the military as it stands today it’s so different from my time. And, being a tanker, we don’t generally know much about how Army aviation functions other than to look up and point when we see a chopper flying overhead.

Blackhawk made a beeline to that plane

Craziest conspiracy I’ve seen since was the heli was remotely hijacked. Someone was explaining it was announced back in October that it could be done and the heli took off from some house owned by the Saudi Arabian embassy?

Until we know the nature of the training flight, I’m not sure it’s fair to make a judgement.

Have they released confirmed details about what was being trained?

No it didn't. The helo is relatively straight and level. (Probably trucking along unaware fixed on the wrong traffic) The jet is The one maneuvering for approach and descending.

the nature of the training fligh

Sec Def said it was Annual Training, so its safe to assume the pilot doing the training and the Instructor Pilot (maybe) are reservist. So safe to think some type of annual qual.

No. And thats what I want to see. But, and I'm not sure how it got out, there was a leak that there were night vision devices on the aircraft. If they were doing night vision training with devices in that clusterfrick the Army is going to have to step up and own this.

The Army has already begun a AR 15-6 Investigation which is the standard investigation tool, I would suspect the Investigating Officer is at least an 06 and a pilot. NTSB will also conduct a separate investigation.

The data is available in both aircraft this shouldnt take long to find a cause.

A temporary pause until they can figure out why the accident happened and how to prevent future ones is a better first step than an permanent ban. The military does have to train its pilots to fly in congested skies at night.
