I think New Orleans has only ever had a Republican mayor during reconstruction.
It would be a big deal to get a Republican in office. Would have to be a well known local black leader to have a chance.

It's possible in this climate if you can swing the black vote.

I don't know her. I just don't think that because someone has a shop in Nola that means that they voted for Latoya.

Desi had decent numbers.

No one real ran in the second race.

The excuse is that there were only 3 cops in the district.

Let's do the math on that.

There are 8 districts and 1,200 officers.

That works out to 150 officers per district Let's say they work 4 shifts like they do at Exxon or whatever. That's 37.5 per district per shift.

Somehow they only had 1/12th of that, even though the same cops that handle car accidents into buildings also handle murders?

Hmmm.

I don't think there is crossover. Not sure how many shifts either, maybe 5.

Plus take off for nopd at the jail.

And those riding the desk.

Not every officer is a patrol officer.

New Orleans does not have 1200 officers in total.

Previous reports already had the number at < 1000, and the expectation was to be < 900 at the time of the New Year.

How do they know the driver was drunk? Arriving 9 hours after it happened would give anyone more than enough time to sober up.

Not only does the math not work out for number of officers active in the district, but it's likely that 9 hours crossed into other shifts. Even if you said ok only half of our police officers do actual police officer stuff in any given week, that's still incredibly inefficient. These numbers indicate that maybe only 15-20% of the officers do field work.

This sounds like a police department management competency and bloat issue.

Somebody should investigate to see if they gave out any traffic tickets during the 9 hours.

We need to list his name so we know who to blame for the issues in NOLA.

This is very important.

Was he white too?

Even though 30 years ago all the Republicans on this board would have been southern democrats.

Back before all the white flight in the good ole days your daddy and daddy's daddy were voting D.

What is a reasonable percentage of cops not being patrol officers?

Let's say they have 900 officers and 50% of officers are uniform patrol officers. That's being generous. I mean - only half your force is boots on the ground? WTF?

Let's say only 20% of those are scheduled at any given time due to shifts and there's not much overtime being worked, and then 12% of those are off on leave. (do you take leave 12% of the time?)

These are all very generous numbers and yet that's still 10 per district.

They had 3. Less than 1/3rd of what you'd expect in that scenario. If officers are claiming overtime then it's even worse than that.

Explain.

30 yrs ago Clinton won LA because Perot split the vote. Prior to that you have to go back to Carter edging out Ford to find LA Blue. I'm not sure how old you are, but you're thinking more 50-60+ yrs ago.
