LINK

Drive Shack says they approached the convention center about putting their facility on their land. CC says not interested.

CC then turns around and is trying to do a deal with Top Golf on the same piece of land.

CC owns the land, CC is a government agency, so one would think this would have to be a competitive bid process.

The CC is sure lately showing themselves as a cesspool of corruption. The shady deal with the proposed hotel, this shady deal, collecting tax money to build a phase 4 that has been cancelled, etc.

Isn’t it all part of SMG?

Top Golf has the better name recognition and would attract more money from tourists looking for things to do in the daytime hours. Seems like a wise move from the CC.

SMG manages facilities for the LA Stadium and Exposition District

The Morial Convention Center is it's own state agency.

SMG doesn't manage the convention center.

What’s wrong with it exactly? I’ve never heard of Drive shack. Why wouldn’t you want the premier company instead of some knockoff?

Why would there need to be a competitive bid on who they decide to have as their tenant?

Because public agencies, when they want to bring in private companies, need to put it out to bid.

That's not true at all.

You're thinking of it like competitive bidding for construction projects.

There is a difference between RFP and RFQ. This situation screams for an RFQ.

Again, a tenant lease doesn't operate the same way that a construction contact does.

this is typical louisiana/new orleans frickery but tbh drive shack can hit the bricks if Top Golf is committed to that plot of land.

Again, I suggest you look into an RFP vs an RFQ, and what is required for types of services such as a lease.

Not to mention, the joint venture with the parking lot.

The issue with a "competitive bid" process is that the two services are not the same. The TG franchise is a much more stable one.

You failed to mention who the investors are for Drive Shack and the investors in the new Omni Convention Center Hotel and the possible conflicts of interest.

My understanding is Jaegar is one of the owners of the land where DriveShack is currently going (the former T-P building), but he has no other involvement with DriveShack. So if DriveShack would have gone onto the CC property, then he would have nothing to do with that deal.

Do you know something else? If so, I'm all ears.

I also think the Omni deal is a mess and a cesspool as well, and he's involved in that.

Political subdivisions of Louisiana have a lot of leeway in using excess lands for purposes of industrial/economic inducement. I believe the leasing of excess lands for these purposes is outside the scope of public procurement and public works bid laws...hence why the Drive Shack folks are complaining tot he Advocate and city instead of immediately filing suit.
