Uluru is awesome (Yulara is the town). It’s a great opportunity to be outdoors and see the splendor of nature. There’s an airport not far (local airport—IIRC about a 5-10 drive to the resorts and they aren’t far from Uluru or Kata Juta).

we stayed out really late in Bryce Canyon for the same reason. Absolutely mesmerizing.

I scheduled a vacation around being in utah 3 days before new moon and 3 days after. Did not disappoint for night views.

It always cracks me up how much of a hard on some people have for Neil deGrasse Tyson.

To be fair, that isn't the view the human eye would see if standing on that beach right now. That is like a 30 second exposure on the camera.

I know. I was initially surprised when I saw where the picture was taken, but then it made more sense once I saw the technique.

I was more speaking from personal experience than discussing this particular photograph.

Wow. Beautiful. Is it possible to see that with naked eye? I’d think it requires extended exposure.

The colors pop far better on film, but if you are somewhere very, *very* dark late at night on a very clear night, it will look like there is a mostly white cloud with colors mixed in smeared across the sky.

To get a really good look, you need to be standing somewhere grey on this map: LINK
