Someone explain to me how you get fricked in a reverse mortgage? I know you have to. Judging by the time of day and targets of the ads. It’s like technical college and Jim Hammer commercials.
Old folks just die and the reverse mortgage company gets the house if the kids don’t pay it back?
Honestly asking. Never really researched.

Yep. Bad interest rates and no matter how much is owed the bank keeps the house. It's a scam. You'd be better off getting a cash out refinance and using the cash to pay your mortgage payments until you die.
I'm pretty sure every scenario is in the banks favor.

The family has a set time to pay back the entirety of the money taken out of the house on the reverse mortgage plus interest or else the house goes to the bank. It’s a short period. Like 12 or 18 months.
The screwing comes from how much they will loan on the reverse mortgage. $150k house paid off? We will give up to 80k on that. Then, with interest, kids pay $100k to get back the $150k house.
