He'll also be the first civilian to do a spacewalk as well: IGN
Man, this guy is going out on a high note. I swear he better up this one with a moon landing. That'd be awesome.

Mission Impossible and Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise is set to star in a movie shot in space thanks to a partnership with NASA, and Universal wants to make him the “the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.”
In an interview with BBC, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Chairwoman Donna Langley spoke about the project, which will have Cruise and the rest of the film crew take a rocket to the International Space Station to shoot parts of the movie in space.
Cruise and director Doug Liman pitched the film to Langley over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic, and she says the movie's overarching plot "actually takes place on Earth, and then the character needs to go up to space to save the day.” Some scenes will include Cruise’s character walking outside of the space station itself, which will give the movie something other movies set in outer space have only been able to emulate.
“Tom Cruise is taking us to space. He’s taking the world to space. That’s the plan,” Langley told BBC. “We have a great project in development with Tom, that does contemplate him doing just that. Taking a rocket up to the space station and shooting and hopefully being the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.”

Xenu will not be happy about this

If it wasn't for the wacky scientology stuff, Tom Cruise would be one of the coolest guys ever.

He's a man in it for the art, and supposedly the single best person in Hollywood to work with.

IDK. In Space Xenu can snatch his soul.

Would be epic if we can get a Tom Cruise weightless running scene.

Ummmm, didn't he go off on the film crew for not taking "proper" precautions and catching Covid?

I don't blame him here. They were already over budget thanks to Covid, and if something fricks up, then they delay shooting for two weeks due to local government regulations and costs them another $10 million. Plus Cruise is also the lead producer as well, to where he's the one who has to answer to the studios should things frick up.

There are people that say they worked in craft services on a film he did 15 years ago, and he remembers their name. Supposed to be a great guy to work for.
Just a fricking weirdo.

I've heard from PAs that have worked with him that he insists on meeting them all on day one and instantly remembers their name as well as backgrounds. Like they're just at the refreshment stand and he'll walk up like asking about someone's mother if he finds out they're sick or something.
And the stunt guys fricking love him. Apparently in the next Mission Impossible movie, Simon Pegg has to get in a stunt drive with Tom, and then when he asked the other stunt men if he'd be safe with Tom, they laughed and said he was the best stunt driver on the set.

coupled with the fact he was out of pocket for some of the money, i do not blame him for being pissed off.
