Have a career opportunity and trying to decide. Salary a modest increase with bonus potential. Would leave federal government for private sector.

Would use Mandeville schools. No commute, it's all telecommute.

I'd go the other direction.

More pay in Htown and similar cost of living.

You need to provide info...

Would you live in NOLA or commute from North Shore?
Do you commute now and if so, how far?
Do you have kids?
If living in NOLA, can you afford private schools?
What do you like about Houston?
What do you miss about NOLA?
Pics of wife/girlfriend?

They don't have Gooner Gras in Houston. So...

I have never lived in Houston, but I'm pretty sure I'd like the food scene.

Why downgrade your standard of living? Mardi gras? Saints games? Culcha?

It depends. Answer this question truthfully. Would you mind if SuperSaint had his way with your old lady? If the answer is no, then you should definitely move back.

If the answer is yes, well you can stay in Texas, but he's probably going to still have his way with her.

In the 90s we moved from Atlanta to NOLA because we were from here and wanted our children to grow up with their grandparents and cousins. Glad we did and the kids are too.
If it had been Houston; harder choice. Houston is better than Atlanta. What kind of life do you want?

ETA - i see you said Northshore. Even better if you don't mind the commute.

Other factor, would be leaving federal job for private sector. Pay is more base, but LA state tax, sales tax, insurance rates higher, etc eat the difference pretty much. Bonus comp is nice but not a guarantee. Benefits meh, but could use TRICARE as an air guard member.

frick no. Everytime I go back to Nola it strikes me how dumpy and dirty it is. Never noticed it til I moved away. I miss king cake, poboys, and crawfish. That's about it.
