I got out of teaching and coaching for the same reasons and haven’t missed it once. Got into sales because that’s about the only thing I could do with my teaching degree. Have more time with the wife and kids, make more money, and get my coaching fix through coaching my son’s teams.

I don’t think it’s a fair take on teachers.

I do think teachers who act like they’re martyrs because they work in the evening are a little ridiculous (Not OP). They know that going in and almost any demanding profession requires the same or more.

To be honest I don’t care for your opinion. Most teachers are generally shitty people from my experience. Some of these teachers should consider what could happen to them once their students become adults.

Not having to cross out 10 Friday nights, 6 Saturdays. I want that time with my wife, whether it’s a weekend getaway or being productive around the house, or sprucing up the backyard and enjoying it. I want to have time to fairly raise a child when that time comes.

You’ve identified the problem. Either, 1) quit coaching or 2) adjuster your standards so it isn’t a problem anymore.

You’ll never get these years back.

A teacher is a person who never left school their entire life. No wonder most the teachers I know are evil scum. Plus you have no kids and are complaining about being a teacher? I’m genuinely intrigued how you seem so miserable?

Damn, I thought I was unhappy

Most of my former students come back to visit, help out the band, and generally are pretty thankful for the dedication of their teachers.

Teachers complaining about the hours they work don’t get much sympathy. Wait two weeks and you will get a week off at Thanksgiving. Three weeks later you will get two weeks of at Christmas. You will then get MLK Day off, then a week off at Mardi Gras. Six weeks later you will get a week and a half off at Easter/Spring Break. You will then work three more weeks then coast into May and then get two or three MONTHS off.

Really? C’mon, man!

My wife wants to start trying for a little one. We aren’t getting any younger. I can’t fathom having a child and both of us only seeing each other (and a kid) for an hour or two a day while awake.

We are both teachers and both involved in extracurricular stuff and coaching. I’m just done with it. I’m burnt out. I’m spent. Even things like LSU football…I miss out on a chance to go because of a Friday night football game or something like that.
Biden?

Change careers. Ain't worth it.

Wife quit her teaching job to homeschool. We were never seeing the kids. We cut a lot of ahit out on one income but we have our kids all the time. It's awesome.

I just helped a teacher I know get a job with us. He wanted a career change to ha e more kids. They were both teachers.

His wife quit all the extra teacher shite and found a private school job.

If you can do it. At least while young and you have small kids.

I’m not saying it’s all teachers and I’m not saying you are a bad teacher. Never did. And yeah, I do have bad memories. I do hope you get better and take control of your life because you seem to be all over the place.

I ask you to read my OP, and I’m in Texas…no Mardi Gras break over here

Maybe we can ask for Cinco de Mayo off

Well, Jimbo, you knew when you took the A&M job there would be long hours and you’d only get to see one LSU game a year.

Currently a band teacher. But the hours are basically the same.

Dude, you’re sitting on a goldmine. You’re right in that you should transfer schools to get your hours down, but once you do that, fire up a private lessons practice and work as many of those extra hours as you want, but work then when you want, and actually get paid what you’re worth for each of them. Id bet if you taught privately for the number of hours you are currently putting in on top of your 40, you could make an extra $1500 per MONTH. Keep grinding but do it on your own schedule, and stop/scale back whenever you feel like it.
